Environmental and social assurance in e-waste management is becoming a critical priority for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) engaging in the circular value chain. After years of steady progress, the advancement of women in the workplace is showing signs of slowing down. In the past decade, the proportion of women in managerial roles in the U.S. has only slightly increased, from 37 percent in 2015 to 39 percent in 2024. This trend is not unique to the U.S.; women worldwide face similar challenges in climbing the corporate ladder. Despite making up 50 percent of entry-level positions globally, women occupy only 25 percent of leadership roles. Unfortunately, there are indications that the gender pay gap may persist without significant structural changes. To address these and other human capital trends, companies should consider: - Linking executive compensation to human capital metrics such as employee engagement and retention rates, aligned with broader business objectives. - Fostering an inclusive workplace and maintaining a culture of open dialogue. Human rights are central to the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM). Tragic tailings dam failures in recent years underscore the urgent need to protect lives, livelihoods, and dignity. GISTM prioritizes proactive measures over-reactive responses, promoting clear risk communication and active engagement with communities near tailings facilities. This empowers communities to make informed decisions and play a role in managing risks. The standard also emphasizes securing free, prior, and informed consent from Indigenous People and First Nations. This ensures respect for their self-determination, land rights, and inclusion in decisions impacting their lives. GISTM highlights that sustaining a social license requires more than compliance—it demands a culture of respect, security, and human rights. It shifts the focus from “doing less harm” to “doing more good,” addressing societal as well as environmental impacts. #GISTM #TailingsManagement #HumanRights
