Today is national food bank day! This day is a time to recognise all the hard work that food banks do and encourage people to support them, however, everyday people in the UK go hungry for reasons ranging from redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income and it is estimated that 11.3 million people in the UK have experienced food insecurity in the last 12 months. A simple box of food makes a big difference, with food banks helping prevent crime, housing loss, family breakdown and mental health problems. During the week the ERMC team has been making donations and it was lovely to be able to deliver them to our local food bank today. “The Isle of Wight Foodbank has given 3672 emergency food parcels to support local people in the past 6 months, supported 1589 Children in the last 6 months and received 8.3 Tonnes of donations last month. The Foodbank can never be the whole answer but, with your support, you have brought hope to those in crisis” Isle of Wight Foodbank #nationalfoodbankday

Unpeeling the layers of a beautiful old building and tending it ready for a new use is one of the most curious and wonderful things about being an architect. Currently on site is The Department - a project close to my heart at Turner.Works. This is a grade II listed former hardware then department store soon to be Arts, Performance and Community Hub run by the incredible Shademakers CIC. See if you can spot the old hardware hooks from the ceiling on the top most floor. Our design for the space will highlight the textures of the old brickwork, bring lots of daylight into the centre of the floorplan and make the whole building more accessible. Awesome work from Turner.Works team members Simon Cadle, Siân Wells and all of our team who have pitched in on the way.
