On Friday night, Esh’s Social Value Manager for Yorkshire, Megan Roberts, was presented with her award for becoming a Leeds & West Yorkshire Top 30 Under 30 winner 🏆 Megan joined Esh Construction as a Community Coordinator in November 2021 and was promoted to Social Value Manager eight months later. She has developed key relationships across the region and been influential in the delivery of social value investment and community engagement since. The Pontefract native has led on Esh’s employer academy partnership with RNN Group UK and the company’s Skills Investor partnership with Skills Street, while working closely with The Work-wise Foundation on social value delivery.   Well done Megan 👏 #t30u30 #Top30Under30 #SocialValue

Esh Construction is excited to be returning to North Star Science School for a second time on 20th November! North Star Science School brings young people, educators, scientists and businesses together to explore the future of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM) in the South Yorkshire region. As a proud partner of Skills Street, we’ll use our Construction in the Curriculum Science workshop to provide insight into sustainability in construction, looking at the impact of high carbon emissions and reducing the industry’s carbon footprint. Students will have the opportunity to step into the shoes of a Sustainability Designer and use their imagination to create an ‘all in one’ sustainability product to answer the sector’s needs. It’s a tight squeeze inside the Tyne Bridge service void which is just 1.5 metres high in places. The void is packed with service ducts, cables and two cast iron mains which carry gas and water, as well as the main bridge girders and hangers, making working conditions very cramped and difficult. So far, several sections of heavily corroded steelwork have been replaced and major repairs are being undertaken to three of the deck hangers where they connect to the main cross beams. Rust and scale is now being removed with a needle gun in preparation for the surface to be repainted, while on the East footway, new buckle plates and access hatches are being installed. As the scaffold starts to be dismantled at deck level around the bridge parapet, the first completed section of blasted, repaired and re-painted steel will be visible to members of the public. A 105-metre pipe bridge has been constructed as part of NWG (Northumbrian Water Group)’s Durham Transfers scheme.   Comprising 12 support columns and a 57-metre long gantry, the structure will support a 400mm gravity sewer. The base of the pipe bridge structure is supported by 42 circular steel screw piles.   Two changes of direction have also been factored into the structure’s design to utilise the existing operation site and reduce the impact on the local environment.   Durham Transfers is part of the Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP) and is being delivered by Esh-Stantec.   FLI Structures

Meet Paul and Charlie, the second and third generation of the Nicholson family to deliver repair works on Tyne Bridge. G Nicholson (Engineer) Ltd first worked on the bridge in 1984, when Paul’s dad, John, was at the helm. Fast forward to 2024, now Paul is at the helm and is working alongside his son Charlie, who joined the company at 16 and is completing an apprenticeship in welding and fabrication. As one of Esh’s main subcontractors working on the restoration project, the Nicholson’s supported with initial investigation works and are now delivering necessary repairs to steelwork, such as removing and replacing rivets, replacing horizontal and vertical connection plates, replacing structural joints in footways and repairs to horizontal and vertical sway bracing. Esh’s 'Construction in the Curriculum' Maths programme has hit an exciting milestone this week…we have now engaged with more than 1,000 students! 👏   We launched the bespoke programme back in 2023 to encourage more young people to consider careers in the construction industry by showing them how maths links to real-life jobs.   This week, Esh’s social value team delivered a workshop to Year 8 students from Egglescliffe School taking the total students engaged across North East and Yorkshire past the 1,000 mark. The latest workshop forms part of our social value delivery on the Tees Transfers scheme for NWG (Northumbrian Water Group).   The session sees timetabled lessons replaced with key curriculum exercises built around a ‘day in the life of a quantity surveyor’. #socialvalue #ConstructingLocal

We are one year into an £18 million regeneration scheme at Ripleyville in Bradford. 73 affordable homes are under construction and when complete will be highly energy-efficient with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of ‘A’. There will be no gas supply to the scheme, instead air source heat pumps and photovoltaic (PV) panels will be installed. Thanks for sharing Accent Group Ltd 👏

A £1.7 million development that will provide a new children’s home in South Tyneside is now underway. Esh Construction has been appointed by South Tyneside Council to deliver a high-quality home for up to four children and young people, as well as live-in staff. A fabric first approach has been taken to energy efficiency with air source heat pumps being installed alongside high levels of thermal insulation. Hebburn New Town children’s home will also include a multipurpose garden and an activity garden for informal sports, providing space for young people to enjoy outdoor exercise and hobbies.
