Globally, 1 in 7 of us live with a disability. This is approximately 1.3 billion people. This month we are raising awareness of hidden disabilities, as part of our diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, to help colleagues better understand hidden disabilities, offer appropriate assistance and cultivate a supportive and inclusive work environment. We are committed to creating a safe, supportive work environment that champions equality and celebrates diversity and it is embedded into the Culture pillar of our ESG strategy. Throughout this month, you'll be hearing from some of our colleagues about their lives with a hidden disability.

This week we've published our results for the half year ended 30 June 2024. Our CEO, Scott Fawcett, shared his comments on the half year performance: “We are encouraged by the sequential momentum through the first half of 2024, and in particular sales and volume trends returning to year-on-year growth in Q2, while recognising that market sentiment remains mixed by region with modest levels of recovery to date. In the period, the Group delivered financial performance in line with Board expectations, including gross margin expansion to 46.4% and operating margins of 13.7%, reflecting Essentra’s resilient track record through the cycle and demonstrating the strength of our differentiated business model. We are also pleased with the performance and contribution so far of BMP TAPPI, which we acquired in October 2023." Read more: https://buff.ly/4dKM7iH

We've been celebrating Pride this June across our global sites led by members of our internal LGBTQ+ network, SPECTRUM. Our colleagues have been celebrating the values of togetherness, inclusivity and equality and showed their support with our #StrongerTogether selfies challenge. Across the month, we also had site celebrations, educational webinars, a Pride themed quiz and movie club. Celebrating Pride at Essentra is part of how we help promote equality and increase understanding of the issues faced by the LGBTQ+ community. Whilst Pride month is over for another year, we encourage our colleagues to 'Make Equality Work' and 'Be Inclusive' all year around. #Pride2024 #PrideMonth

The theme for our Sustainability Week this June was "Get out into nature", and we ran a competition for our employees to share photos of nature local to them, at our sites around the world. The photos below are just a small selection of the amazing photos taken during the month, and show the diversity of nature across our sites worldwide. Once the competition closes at the end of the month, our employees will vote for their favourites, with prizes for the top three photos. At Essentra, we recognise it's important to protect the local habitats our company operates in. To reduce our impact as a business on nature, we have a target to be zero waste to landfill across our operations, and to reduce our waste intensity by 50%, by 2030. In 2023, 94% of solid waste was diverted from landfill across our operations, an increase of 18% compared to 2022, and our waste intensity has reduced by 28% against our 2019 baseline. We also encourage our employees to use the volunteer day they get each year to protect local habitats, and our employees have taken part in a wide range of activities from coral reef planting in Thailand, to forest restoration in Spain. Last week, Essentra’s Annual General Meeting for 2024 took place at our Head Office in Kidlington, UK.    Consistent with the outlook shared at the FY2023 results, Management anticipate performance to be second half weighted with an improvement in volumes in the second half of the year. The Group remains well positioned to benefit from a recovery in its end-markets when volume growth returns to normalised levels, given the actions that have been taken to right-size the cost base and optimise the business to deliver operating leverage. The Group is proactively responding to changes in market conditions, and continues to invest in value enhancing growth initiatives, driving operational effectiveness.   Read the full AGM 2024 Trading Update: https://lnkd.in/ddS5nfdh

We’ve been marking Safety Week at Essentra this week, highlighting our commitment to health and safety at work and continuing to place emphasis on running our business safely as our first priority. Activities have been happening across our global sites, including toolbox talks about getting hands on about hand safety and presentations about our site safety charters. As a business, we seek to embed a zero-accident ethos and world-leading safety culture driven through three pillars – Leadership, Participation and Compliance. In 2023, we launched the Leadership Safety Commitment, a standard to align all leaders in our organisation. This Safety Commitment also launched at all our locations and each year our sites sign this safety pledge, ensuring health and safety is embedded and owned by every individual within the business.
