Thank you to Colum Cronin for your thoughts on key points from the evasys Student Engagement Forum - much appreciated, as was your attendance and contribution 💕
🔍 Did you know that universities hold around 800 data points on each individual student—and this data could potentially predict their wellbeing? (Source: Wonkhe study) This thought-provoking insight from Kay Hack’s presentation was just one of many highlights at the evasys Surveys and Evaluations Forum I attended at Trinity College Dublin alongside my colleague, Shauna Cassidy. The day’s theme, Amplifying Student Voice: Building Evidence-Based Engagement Strategies for Student Engagement and Success, led to invaluable strategies and discussions on enhancing student engagement with a focus on data-driven approaches. 🔑 Key takeaways: Tom Lowe’s keynote underscored the importance of engaging students meaningfully to build emotional, cognitive, and behavioural connections with campus life. His points on engaging students early, efficiently, and authentically—while considering speed, cost, and convenience—were particularly resonant. Tom also referenced Adam Fletcher’s 5 Pathways to Meaningful Student Voice as a guide for embedding student voices in institutional culture, focusing on acknowledgment, commitment, promotion, empowerment, and expanding conversations. Student 2 Student Mentoring: Ralph Armstrong-Astley, Alex Martin, Chris Kelly, and Hezamery Paul from Trinity College Dublin illustrated how mentoring can significantly impact both mentees’ and mentors’ sense of belonging and success. Connecting with former colleagues from Trinity and DCU was wonderful, and it was a pleasure meeting new peers like Helena Lim, and Sarah Murtagh amongst others. A fantastic day full of learning, connections, and actionable insights - looking forward to bringing some of these these ideas to life at MIE!

The final session of the day is our fishbowl discussion, facilitated by Aisling McKenna, where participants are discussing 'Understanding student engagement in a post-pandemic context' Having the discussion structured in this way allows for individuals from the larger group of event attendees to take a seat and join in the conversation - and we're glad to say that has already happened!
