  • Today’s US election will likely impact markets this season, and it’s got us thinking about how events in society can have a short term and long-term impact on investing. 🇺🇸 For example, in the short term, new government policies could affect different sectors, which in turn can affect investment in those sectors. In the long term, changes in technology and the workplace, such as the increasing adoption of Artificial Intelligence and the pressure for businesses to transition to low-carbon models, can impact the demand for materials which support that technology. 🤖🔋 This affects investment opportunities in those materials. ⚠️ With any investment, the income you get may fall as well as rise, and you might not get back what you originally put in. It’s also important to note that past performance is not an indicator of future results. Suffice to say, there’s a lot to investing! If you feel like it’s time to make a financial plan, it’s a good idea to speak with a qualified financial adviser, no matter who ends up in the White House. 🏦 #Investing #Finance #USElection #MarketImpact #FinancialPlanning #FinancialAdviser

  • Inherited pensions are set to face a new tax treatment for unspent pots starting in April 2027. 📅 It will mean pensions will fall within the scope of Inheritance Tax (IHT), applying the standard 40% IHT rate to unspent pension pots passed to beneficiaries after the death of the pension holder. It's believed to affect around 8% of estates each year. ⚠️ It’s important to also note that the tax will apply regardless of the age at which the pension holder dies, removing the current tax-free inheritance options available if death occurs before age 75. Evergreen Director Ryan Nobbs said: “This means that if beneficiaries inherit a pension pot, it may be subject not only to the 40% IHT but also potentially to income tax when the beneficiary withdraws funds, depending on their own tax rate. “For example, if a pension pot worth £300,000 is inherited and IHT applies, the tax could take £120,000, leaving £180,000 for the beneficiary. If they draw down on the remaining balance, additional income tax might apply, reducing the amount further.” The change will have significant implications for estate planning, as pension funds were previously a favoured vehicle for passing on wealth due to their tax efficiencies. For advice on the most tax efficient financial planning, speak with a qualified financial adviser. #InheritanceTax #EstatePlanning #FinancialAdvice #Pensions #TaxPlanning

  • It can be hard to know where to start when planning for your finances to go to your loved ones in the event of your passing. It’s also not something we want to think about, but taking a few steps now will make it much easier for your family in the future. Here are some things to consider: 📜 Make a list of all your assets, digital and physical, with everything the executor of your will needs to locate and distribute them. Think what they will need to access those assets, such as contact numbers and website addresses. 🧾 Include receipts, certificates and insurance valuations with any physical assets. 💼 Get expert advice on things like consolidating your pensions and establishing nominated beneficiaries. 💳 List all your debts too, like mortgages, loans, credit cards, car finance etc. 💡 It’s a good idea to also include a copy of your will, details about your lasting power of attorney (if you’ve sorted one) and any trusts. Since everyone’s circumstances are different, you can’t take the above as financial advice. It’s a good idea to speak to a qualified financial adviser to make a plan which works for you. #FinancialPlanning #EstatePlanning #WillPreparation

Good Morning! As we finally get to digest yesterday’s Autumn Budget, let’s take a moment to break it down – and rest assured, it’s not as spooky as Scarefest! 🎃 Budget updates can feel overwhelming, but a clear understanding helps us stay prepared and proactive. Here’s a simple breakdown: 🔹 Personal Taxes: No increases in income tax or National Insurance, and from 2028, tax thresholds will rise with inflation. It’s a dose of stability we can all appreciate as we plan ahead. 🔹 Capital Gains & Inheritance Tax: Capital Gains Tax is on the rise, and inheritance rules are tightening, particularly around pensions. This is a great time to revisit your investments and plans, ensuring they align with what you want to leave behind. 🔹 Support for Small Businesses: Employers’ National Insurance contributions are going up, but the higher employment allowance will provide some relief, especially for small businesses focused on sustainable growth. 🔹 Minimum Wage & Pensions: From April 2025, the minimum wage for over-21s will rise to £12.21, while the state pension triple lock remains in place. These changes offer vital support for today’s workforce and tomorrow’s retirees. 🔹 Other Key Points: Updates on vehicle taxes, carers’ allowance, and VAT on private school fees show just how connected finance is to all aspects of life. Finance, like life, becomes less intimidating when we take it step-by-step. These changes don’t have to be daunting; with a proactive approach, we can transform potential challenges into opportunities for growth and resilience. If you’re curious about how these updates might impact your own journey, we’re here to help. Let’s take the fear out of finance, embrace the changes and plan for a confident, secure future. 🎃💼 Boo! 👻 Oh and Happy Halloween! This tax is paid on profits made from selling assets including investments, such as shares, or second homes. 𝗜𝗻𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗧𝗮𝘅 (𝗜𝗛𝗧): Thresholds will now be frozen until April 2030, so the first £325,000 of any estate can be inherited tax-free. Other reliefs may apply. 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗺 𝗪𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲: The National Living Wage is rising to £12.21 per hour for those aged 21 and over from April 2025, representing a 6.7% increase. This imposes additional costs on businesses amid other tax hikes. 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲: The State Pension Triple Lock will be maintained for the duration of this parliament. Spending on the state pension is projected to rise 4.1% in 2025-26 – a £470 increase for over 12 million pensioners in the UK. 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Increased contributions for employers, aiming to generate £25 billion in additional revenue to support public spending. 𝗔𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗵𝗼𝗹 𝗱𝘂𝘁𝘆: Draught duty will decrease, saving 1p off a pint in the pub! 🍺 While business-related taxes have been a focus in order to avoid imposing additional direct taxes on individuals, corporate tax rises may indirectly affect employment and wages over time. While these announcements might trigger some knee jerk reactions, it’s important to understand that change is inevitable, and tax rules can change. Taxes can also vary depending on your circumstances and where you live, which is another reason why financial advisers consider your circumstances when crafting financial plans. If you feel it’s time to make a financial plan, or perhaps revisit one you haven’t refreshed in a while, it might be time to get in touch with us. • We’ve got a few key dates coming up which will see announcements that could affect your financial and tax affairs. 📅 October 30 – Chancellor Rachel Reeves will deliver an update on the government's plans for the economy during the Autumn Statement. This is based on the latest forecasts from the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR). On the same day, the new government’s Budget will be announced. While there is usually less detail in the Autumn Statement about taxes, the Budget tends to give more detail about taxation plans. 📅 November 7 - The Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) is expected to announce its decision on interest rates. With UK inflation dropping, there is speculation of a rate cut, meaning lower borrowing costs. While some may be tempted to amend their investment approach as a reaction to swings in the market, others maintain a diversified, long-term strategy, remaining committed to carefully considered plans. A financial adviser can help you make a financial plan, taking into account your circumstances. #AutumnStatement #EconomicOutlook #StayInformed #AutumnBudget #Inflation

💭 “Everyone sees the decisions you make, but no one knows the options you had.” This quote hits hard 🔥 It’s easy for others to see the outcome, but only you truly know the challenges and tough choices behind it. Every decision we make is shaped by circumstances that are often invisible to the outside world. Watching Kaziah stand on the Matilda stage was a reminder that we all face moments where the world only sees the end result, but no one fully understands the journey to get there. Whether it’s in life, work, or personal dreams, the decisions we make come from places only we know. Trust your journey. Keep pushing forward, because each step, no matter how small, is leading you somewhere amazing. You’ve got this! 💪 #Motivation #LifeChoices #TrustTheProcess #SelfBelief #KeepGoing #Evergreen Evergreen Financial Planning
