𝙀𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙊𝙧𝙜𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙯𝙚𝙧𝙨: There's no excuse for a lack of great tasting adult non-alcoholic drinks at events.
However, it's important to acknowledge challenges that event organizers and venues face when carrying adult NA beverages.
This is why the recent report by Club Soda, Laura Willoughby MBE, Adult Non-Alcoholic Beverage Association (ANBA) member Everleaf Drinks | B Corp, and Narmeen Kamran AIH, and Desert Island Events is soooooooooooo important.
In the new report - 𝘈𝘯 𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘛𝘰 𝘙𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳 - they point out that:
• 25% of event attendees abstain from alcohol entirely
• Over 25% limit alcohol consumption to 1-2 drinks
• 61% of event organizers report a growing demand for NA drinks
But the report also reveals a major issue with events:
• Every part of the supply chain is waiting for someone else to act
• Innovation in food and drink is slow, and the responsibility for change has unfairly fallen on small, resource-limited brands.
• It’s time for the entire ecosystem to step up and seize the potential of this movement.
"While pubs, bars, and supermarkets are making strides in embracing low and no alcohol options, other key sectors - wholesalers, distributors, event organisers, caterers, and food service providers - are lagging behind. They are missing the opportunity that this growing market presents."
The report also outlines actionable recommendations for the events industry:
1. Design menus that always include a diverse range of alcohol-free drinks as part of the default offering
2. Avoid relegating alcohol-free drinks to “optional extras” that clients must specifically request and pay additionally.
3. Include alcohol-free as part of the overall drinks budget
4. Ensure alcohol-free options are clearly signposted and presented equally with alcoholic drinks
5. Train staff to suggest and serve alcohol-free drinks as part of the overall event experience
6. Be prepared to answer common questions about NA drinks
7. Include the fact that there will be drinks for everyone in your event marketing and information.
