Yesterday Lisa Nandy set out the intentions for the new government to work hand in hand with the TV industry to secure the future of public service broadcasting. “I want the work we do together to lay the foundations for and secure the future of public service broadcasting until well into the second half of this coming century.” “Never underestimate the power of Derry Girls, All Creatures Great and Small or Queer as Folk. These are shows that go hand in hand with notion of public service broadcasting.” “Just think what we will create. Through us doing our bit and you doing yours. With a new relationship based on respect for one another. A television industry that leads the world and is the pride of all of Britain. Thriving well into the latter half of this Century. That is what we will build, together." Everyone TV is here to play its part in ensuring that public service broadcasting doesn’t just survive but thrives, securing the long-term health of free TV and its future for the streaming era. Latest data from Ampere Analysis reveals that Freely gives viewers access to over 70,000 hours of on demand content for free, more than any major SVOD in the UK including Netflix, Disney+ and Apple TV+. This vast catalogue of the best of British television exists alongside countless hours of streamed live TV, uniquely integrated into the service. “The results of this research indicate that Freely's extensive catalogue is highly competitive in size when compared with major streamers in the market. Additionally, it offers consumers a unified and simplified experience for accessing broadcaster content, which is increasingly important in a competitive and fragmented market.” - Lottie Towler, Principal Analyst at Ampere “At its heart, Freely is about championing access to British content for British audiences." "The new platform brings together local, originated programming that champions UK talent and UK stories. It gives viewers access to the best of British TV, with shows that reflect our nation, driving the national conversation and broadening the common investment that all audiences have in our society." - Jonathan T., CEO, EveryoneTV Read more here >> https://lnkd.in/eJYTcGZG #BritishTV #BritishStorytelling #PublicServiceBroadcasting #PSB #Freely #FreeTV

"The direction of travel is that more and more homes are spending more time streaming. An increasing number of households are effectively internet only and not connecting an aerial to their TV. It’s around 20% of homes today but that share is forecast to grow to half of TV homes by the end of this decade.” - Jonathan T., CEO, Everyone TV Find out more about how Freely is securing the future of free TV at IBC - International Broadcasting Convention. The future of the TV industry and working-class representation have been key themes at the Edinburgh TV Festival - Supported by Screen Scotland this week, as public service broadcasters BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 all unveiled new programming, setting out their intentions for the months ahead. Here are some of the top takeaways: 🚀 • The digital TV revolution is already here – BBC’s Dan McGolpin says the PSBs are collaborating through Freely, as they work to secure their audiences well into the streaming age ☝ • James Graham and Jack Rooke both made necessary pleas for greater working-class representation in the television industry 📺 • ITV’s Kevin Lygo says the live channel is their biggest marketing platform, as he considers how audiences transition between live to on demand viewing 🎬 • Ian Katz unveils high-risk programming for Channel 4, including ‘Go back to where you came from’, saying PSBs should be probing the big questions in society and investing in high-risk ideas to continue guaranteeing British IP within the sector 📈 • BBC’s Charlotte Moore says ‘the strategy is working’ as she reveals iPlayer is up 13% in the first half of this year, ‘we are constantly giving audiences the choice to watch what they want, when they want to watch it’ 👏 • Channel 5 celebrated a rebrand at the festival to ‘5’, as their linear and digital propositions are unified under a single brand 🎞 • Streaming execs call out the high quality of public service broadcasters’ content and the need to offer truly compelling programming to be able to compete with free TV Read the MacTaggart lecture in full here >> https://lnkd.in/e5ci_Bt8
