Today we have launched a new initiative with Colgate-Palmolive, to help combat tooth decay amongst 70,000 children living in some of the most deprived parts of the UK. Tooth decay remains the leading cause of hospital admission for children aged 5 to 9 years, with those living in the most deprived communities 3.5 times more likely to have a decaying tooth extracted than children in more affluent areas. To address this dental inequality, we are donating more than 70,000 free dental kits to help children look after their teeth and gums and educate them on why it’s important to do so. We are continuing to launch new ways to better support schools, including our Cashpot for Schools initiative which has raised over £3m for UK primary schools since launching at the start of September 🎒🦷

Today is World Mental Health Day 💚🌍   Let's take a moment to acknowledge that mental health is just as important as physical health.   This year's theme emphasises that “It’s time to prioritise mental health in the workplace.” Highlighting the importance of addressing mental health and wellbeing in the workplace, for the benefit of colleagues, organisations, and communities. At Asda, we maintain that open conversations on mental health is vital to breaking stigmas, fostering a culture of awareness and support across the business. To better support our colleagues, we train at least one manager in every store and depot via our partnership with Rethink Mental Illness. We offer unlimited mental health consultations through our partnership with Unum, helping colleagues to look after their mental health where needed. We also have designated wellbeing spaces throughout the head office to provide a calm environment for relaxation and reflection. We’re excited to reveal that we are trialling a new colleague uniform that will see over 2,600 colleagues sporting a fresh new look for the Asda business! The trial uniform has been developed with our colleague representatives, taking onboard their feedback to include new fabrics and designs to support their roles and that they will be proud to wear. This is the first time in 12 years that we have given our colleague uniform a major overhaul, and we can’t wait to hear the feedback from colleagues and incorporate into our final version. On Friday we launched our Asda Futures programme! Engaging with secondary schools around Yorkshire to promote hidden careers by challenging the young people with a product design task. The year will encourage the development of employ-ability skills to enable students to become career ready as well as allowing them to positively engage with professionals and learn about varied career pathways.   During the launch our young people took part in tasks to develop their critical thinking, teamwork and public speaking as they were asked to start designing a sustainable vegan product that will fit into Asda's Exceptional range paying particular attention to sustainability.   We look forward to welcoming the schools back in November for a session on product development.   #SDG8 #SDG12 #careerready #employabilityskills #earlycareers #sustainability"

Last week, we invited 90 pupils from local primary schools to come into Asda House as we launched the first of three school engagement programmes. As part of the Asda Heroes programme the primary school children learnt about sustainability issues such as food waste and hunger, and as part of a year long plan, these students will now work with their local Asda Community Champions and the early careers team to understand how these issues impact their local community, how they can reduce their waste in school as well as making a positive impact on their local community by becoming global citizens. Each of the three programmes will touch upon ESG related issues, and willl be heavily aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. We will be kicking off our secondary school and college programmes in the next few weeks, as we look to help develop the next generation of leaders in the food and drink industry 🌟 For more information, click through here: https://lnkd.in/es9SGgAW
