𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮’𝘀 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲: 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗝𝗘𝗘 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 As an Executive Search Consultant with Executives in Africa, I had the privilege of attending the transformative #JEELondon2024 event hosted by Jackson, Etti & Edu, where visionary industry leaders convened to discuss "Investing in Africa's Digital Economy: Catalysing the Next Frontier of Growth". The discussions highlighted the immense potential and critical leadership challenges driving Africa's digital revolution. According to the keynote speaker, AIG IMOUKHUEDE, anyone who can solve issues around education, health, and finance access will make a lot of money in Africa. A few key insights that stood out to me: 𝗨𝗻𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗨𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝗣𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹: With 40-60% of Africa's population still lacking internet access, the runway for digital infrastructure investment is vast. But realizing this potential will require a new breed of innovative, strategically minded leaders. 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗚𝗮𝗽: Bridging the digital divide will demand a unified effort from financiers, regulators, and technology experts. Cultivating high-level partnerships and aligning stakeholders will be pivotal for success. 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆: Africa's digital transformation transcends mere connectivity - it's about catalysing economic progress, creating jobs, and uplifting millions. Visionary leadership is needed to steer this profound societal change. As 'Tokunboh Ishmael, CFA noted, she had made and lost money based on the quality of people leading the businesses she had invested in. The calibre of talent and diversity of perspectives at the event underscored the critical importance of people and leadership in shaping Africa's digital future. What leadership qualities do you believe will be most essential for driving Africa's digital revolution? I'm eager to hear your insights in the comments below.   #AfricanTech #DigitalTransformation #ExecutiveLeadership

AGREE OR DISAGREE? 'Soft Skills are the True Markers of Leadership Excellence' What is interesting as a follow on question, as companies embrace technology more as part of their talent acquisition strategies, how should companies assess Soft Skills for Leadership Roles. 𝑯𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝑺𝒌𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒔 𝑪𝒂𝒏 𝑶𝒏𝒍𝒚 𝑮𝒆𝒕 𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝑺𝒐 𝑭𝒂𝒓—𝑺𝒐𝒇𝒕 𝑺𝒌𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒔 𝑨𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑻𝒓𝒖𝒆 𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒌𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝑳𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑 𝑬𝒙𝒄𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 In #Africa's rapidly evolving business landscape, technical skills alone won’t make you an effective leader. The leaders who truly inspire, excel through empathy, emotional intelligence, and the ability to connect with diverse teams across languages, cultures, and perspectives.  Research from #Deloitte found that 85% of successful African business #leaders emphasized the importance of cultural sensitivity and adaptability—soft skills that help leaders effectively manage across diverse teams and markets. With one of the world’s youngest workforces and booming economies, African leaders face unique challenges and opportunities. Those who prioritise adaptability, cultural sensitivity, and strategic relationship-building are better equipped to unite teams, drive sustainable growth, and foster resilience amid local challenges and global competition. A Gallup study across African regions highlighted that employees who feel respected and heard by their leaders are 40% more likely to be productive. Leaders with high emotional intelligence drive stronger engagement by fostering trust and open communication, both of which are essential in high-stress or high-growth environments. At Executives in Africa, we believe soft skills are the backbone of success in Africa. Leaders who don’t see their importance may soon find themselves outpaced by those who do. Is your organisation truly investing in these skills?

    5. Have I built a strong local team that knows the market inside and out? 78% of leaders placed by Executives in Africa are local nationals. We totally agree that building a local team is critical to success for most businesses. There are a few emerging sectors who need to bring in rare talent in these new areas but this still needs to be combined with strong local insights to be most successful 👌🏼 #Africa #leadership #Recruitment
