Exeter Phoenix is a vibrant arts venue and creative hub in the heart of Exeter. We are Making Creative Connections.
About us
Bang in the heart of the city, Exeter Phoenix is the South West’s foremost multi-artform venue. In our building you’ll find several art galleries, a large auditorium for gigs and theatre, a cinema, a filmmaking hub complete with editing suites, artist studios, a radio station, sound recording studios run by Sound Gallery CIC and a print workshop all centred around a friendly café bar serving delicious locally sourced food and drink. In our programme you’ll find award-winning work by internationally renowned artists alongside new work by local creatives. We like to develop new talent – giving the artists we work with the tools to experiment, take risks and realise their best ideas – and we love it when our audience can say they saw great work here first. We are very pleased to share that Micha Colombo’s Micro Short Film, commissioned by Exeter Phoenix and premiered at the 2024 Two Short Nights Film Festival, ‘I Want This’ has been selected for Women X Film Festival in Darlington this September. The film tells the story of an overwhelmed mother, lost within her daily life until a midnight moment in nature helps her to find clarity. Last year, Micha said “The whole project has been a series of firsts for me: pitching an idea, gathering a team, organising a shoot, shaping the edit. It's been life-affirming.” Check out the Women X Film Festival programme via https://lnkd.in/egZwsmps We also look forward to seeing the premiere of Micha’s Devon Short Film Commission: ‘Abigail’s an activist now’ at Two Short Nights Film Festival 2025.

Our first ever Green Phoenix Festival took place last month. Designed to inspire action for the planet and encourage discussion about the climate crisis, the day featured a host of activities ranging from Disco Soup making and family crafts to talks, open mics and comedy. We have already had some positive feedback from collaborators: “Lovely, supportive vibe and a great variety of organisations” “The open mic was amazing” “Thank you for organising a brilliant event!” We just wanted to say a huge thank you all of our wonderful collaborators, sponsors, Ethical Power and everyone that took part 💚 📷 Photo credit: Isobel Thomas (1, 2, 4) & Kris Sum (3, 5, 6, 7)

Last week we had the pleasure of premiering two commissions as part of our ongoing Phoenix Archive Project. The evening included a debut screening of Xenia Glen and Antosh Wojcik’s new film and a performance of new music from Holly Ebony - both pieces created in response to the rescued 16mm film from the project. Thank you Xenia, Antosh and Holly for your incredible work, to the National Lottery Fund and The Radcliffe Trust for making this project possible and to everyone who join us on the night. We also look forward to welcoming Antosh Wojcik back in August as part of the annual Spork! Summer Special. Make sure to check out the full line-up at https://lnkd.in/gcmHtspr
