Exposure Marine

Appliances, Electrical, and Electronics Manufacturing

Exposure Marine is built on innovation for performance lighting and safety products for the marine industry.

About us

Exposure Lights are much more than just torches, they combine high powered LED search capabilities with our patented MOB Technology and precision engineering to create floating, water activated strobes. This allows you to not only use the light to search but also as a position indicating light when in the water. Our knowledge has been gained through a close working relationship with the world's top offshore sailing teams where reliability and function are mandatory. Our extensive heritage in portable LED lighting from the Search and Rescue market has driven the patented MOB technology which can now be found as standard on all Volvo Ocean Racing yachts along with our RAW Pro head torch, which has become the professional sailor's choice. Simultaneously whilst innovating for offshore racing our team learnt a lot about all elements of marine safety. Through our teams' personal experiences, and those of others, the OLAS technology was developed. OLAS took advantage of the rapidly improving advances in 'connected’ products and mobile devices. Our electrical engineers have harnessed this technology, converting it into an affordable man overboard alarm for cruising sailors and boaters.

To support the next generation of offshore Canadian sailors, the Canada Ocean Racing-Be Water Positive Sailing Team proudly launched its inaugural Pathway Program on Georgian Bay, Collingwood, Ontario, Canada, over the weekend of the 27-29 of September. Canada Ocean Racing skipper Scott Shawyer added: “Our campaign is based in France, where the elite of short-handed offshore sailing train, compete, and manage their campaigns. Through our participation in the IMOCA Globe Series, we have learned and continue to learn so much, and it was always my intention to share that knowledge with the Canadian sailing community. Offshore sailing, particularly solo or short-handed, is highly celebrated in Europe, especially in France, but it remains relatively underdeveloped in Canada. This Pathway Program is our way of fostering that discipline here at home, by sharing our learnings and experiences with fellow Canadian sailors.” Designed for individuals aged 18-25 with an interest in sailing or a career in the sport, the Pathway Program offers participants the opportunity to develop their skills and understanding of professional campaigning under the guidance of experienced mentors. Head of Exposure Marine

This is a very interesting article about a recent incident where a casualty fell from the stern of a motor cruiser, and the helm remained unaware. Crucially, she was saved by her lifejacket and having her mobile on her person. A search and rescue operation was launched after she was able to alert the authorities. I’m highlighting this because if a system like the OLAS N2K had been used, it would have immediately alerted the helm to the man overboard (MOB) event, allowing them to initiate recovery themselves and notify the coastguard promptly. Fortunately, this story has a life-saving outcome, but it could have been very different if either the phone or the lifejacket had not been used. I appreciate that we manufacture MOB alarm systems and may seem biased, but we develop these systems to help prevent scenarios like this from escalating into large-scale search and rescue operations. I believe it is important for ocean-going leisure vessels, especially those operating short-handed, to have some form of MOB system in place—it’s not reserved just for offshore sailing yachts!
