Erika Brodnock MBE, CEO of coaching platform Kinhub, features prominently in press coverage this week of new research by American Express and think tank The Entrepreneurs Network on the importance of role models in shaping the ambitions of startup founders. Erika is also co-founder of Extend Ventures, which has done extensive research on the very low access to venture capital by women and Black founders, and the shockingly low access by Black women founders in the UK (0.02% of venture capital raised over the last ten years). She comments, “Growing up, I had plenty of ambitious and entrepreneurial adults who were a huge inspiration to me – but very few existed in the white-collar business world. Now, as a Black female CEO and founder, the absence of people who look like me has made the road considerably harder.” One hopes that the visibility of people like Erika as role models will at least make the road to be travelled by the next generation of Black female founders a bit less hard. #venturecapital #womeninbusiness #blackentrepreneur Patricia Hamzahee FRSA Stacey Sterbenz Eamonn Ives Mike Berry Bonnie Chiu https://lnkd.in/eRH5sNmQ
