One of the highlights from the recent Data Vandals exhibition—this stunning stream graph, created by Jason Forrest for the event, captures nearly two centuries of immigration to NYC. Each wave tells a story of shifting communities that have helped shape the vibrant city we know today. Explore the interactive chart and uncover the stories behind the data: https://lnkd.in/e2qJWFpX

I almost never get to write code any more, so it was a rare treat to make this little feature recently, allowing Flourish users to create map-style small multiples by specifying the position of individual charts in the grid. Works really well for US states, so hopefully useful for the upcoming election coverage. Glad you like it Jonathan Schwabish!
We now have (or maybe we've always had and I just didn't realize it?) the capability of building Tile Grid Maps in Flourish! You can create a custom grid for your graphs using x,y coordinates in the Grid of Charts panel. Help doc: https://lnkd.in/ePKZazrG Example TGM: https://lnkd.in/eixnmhVp

✨ What an unforgettable weekend! Over 500 people joined us at “Hello From The Data Vandals” at Cooper Union, where art, data, and storytelling came together in the heart of NYC. From interactive installations to expert panels with our incredible guests, including Jason Forrest, Jen Ray, and Bill Connolly, Martha Norrick and Cara Di Edwardo, the energy was inspiring! Plus, we had a fabulous opening night, a walking tour with type legend Paul Shaw and a comedy session with Tom Delgado that left everyone buzzing. Thanks to all who came out to experience the magic of data storytelling with us! Stay tuned for more exciting events to come! #Flourish #DataStorytelling #NYC

It was fun to speak at Sifted this afternoon about if, when and how to expand a startup overseas, sharing some learnings from Canva and Flourish, such as: * Localisation isn't just about languages, but also pricing, product, in-app content, creative, payment systems, SEO and much more. At Canva we have a company-wide pillar called "Truly Local" to capture all this holistically. * The UK and the US both speak English, but they have very different cultural nuances. What works in one won't necessarily work in the other. We recently tested the same creative campaign in both countries and got completely different reactions. * While being physically located in a country is the best way to truly succeed there, don't assume you need boots on the ground to build a big user community. Start with a global mindset and think about how to generate local visibility and community from your current base. * M&A can be a good way to expand into a new region, but only if a) the acquisition makes sense anyway for other reasons, and b) there's a high level of trust between the founders of the acquiring and acquired companies. We were lucky to have this situation when Flourish joined the Canva family. Thanks Daphné Leprince-Ringuet for hosting, and Eshita Kabra and Sahar Meghani for the interesting discussion! PS. Nice to see a bunch of Flourish charts pictured on the Sifted branding!
