Exciting news! F1000 is delighted to announce that we are proud partners of the BMJ Research Forum 2023, a dynamic event focusing on driving forward the real-world impact of research— the linchpin of F1000's mission. The Forum will bring together a diverse group of experts, including research funding organizations, policymakers, individuals with lived experience, research leaders and editors, alongside F1000’s Managing Director, Rebecca Lawrence. Together they will delve into the pressing questions that transcend the medical research community. This year, the focus revolves around two crucial areas: 1. How data flows from patients and citizens to research and back to deliver benefits 2. We’re pleased to announce that F1000 and The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation are launching a new verified preprint platform called VeriXiv which will enable the rapid availability of new findings while promoting research integrity. VeriXiv will support researchers to comply with the Gates Foundation’s refreshed open access policy which requires all funded research to be made available as a preprint from January 2025. Ahead of the BMJ Research Forum, we’d like to share a case study developed by F1000 which brings together both researcher and lived experience perspectives, focusing on the real-world impact of health research in improving lives for patients, their families and care givers. Research funded by Marie Curie on F1000’s Health Open Research Platform shows the links between open research, policy-making, and patient impact. “This review was developed so that such policy and practice recommendations could be contextualized with the rapidly evolving policy landscape. We wanted the research to reach as wide an audience as possible, including non-academic clinicians and the public – as quickly as possible.
