Help Us Create Our Free Basic SQL Query Training Course.
We have been made a Strategic Partner of AnalystX. As is the spirit of the group, we all give a bit.
My input will be to provide a weekly drop in course to deliver basic SQL training to anyone who wants it. For free. This means NHS analysts will gain much needed basic skills and I get to show off Facts and Dimensions as I will use the FAD data for the training.
This training is for giving analyst the basic skills needed to confidently analyse data themselves.
What will be covered.
1 Basic understanding of star schema (facts and dimension tables)
2 All main elements of SELECT query (SELECT, LEFT JOIN, INNER JOIN, WHERE, GROUP BY, HAVING, ORDER BY, TOP)
3 All main summation elements (COUNT, AVG, SUM, MAX, MIN)
4 DISTINCT when to and when not to use it
5 NULL, ISNULL, = NULL
6 IN, BETWEEN
7 LIKE expressions
8 Common Table Expressions
9 Dynamic SQL
10 Openquery
11 How to write performant queries, especially over linked servers
How to connect using Tableau, Power BI, Excel, Access, R, etc
12 Cursors
13 Temp tables
Items 1 to 7 are the ones that I consider critical. I plan to make sure the course is a maximum of 6hrs long and will at least cover those critical elements.
So, can I have one or two volunteers to try out the training on please. Ideally two days of your time as it will be a bit stop-start as we together neaten up the training programme for a single day.
For this development of the course, I am only wanting people from our existing customers, who are already at least a bit experienced using the FAD database and who are wanting to better understand how to use SQL to query data.
Please get in touch directly.
Longer term, the course will be improved by making use of smartR AI's SCOTIE (aka myGPT) tool which we have trained with the training materials I wrote with help of Keystream . We'll train using Snowflake's SnowSQL and Microsoft's TSQL.
