Great ideas don't sell themselves. They actually need more marketing. Why? Because great ideas change the world. And people don't like change... Planes. Cars. Even wheels on luggage. All great ideas. All took forever to catch on. According to Michael, the same thing is happening with remote working. In 2020 we were forced to adopt it. And a lot of employees loved it. But now we're "back to normal", some managers miss the control they once had in the office. They hate to think employees work just as well, or better, without them breathing down their necks. But those managers won't win. Because top talent has had a taste for freedom and they don't want to go back. If flexibility isn't an option - they'll leave. It's a revolution in the way we work, and it rewards performance. So don't micromanage your best team members. Set targets for them - then get out of their way.

“Remote work is killing careers, innovation, and businesses.” That’s what Cristiana just read in a post (in a very defensive tone). Some people feel that way. But for her? Since joining Fame, remote work has done the opposite. She feels more focused. More creative. More motivated than ever. Her productivity has gone up. Her wellbeing has improved. And she still collaborates, learns, and contributes just as much, just in a different way. The idea that innovation only happens in an office… That career growth only comes from sitting near management… That businesses can’t adapt… It’s just not her experience. Of course, remote work isn’t for everyone. Some thrive in an office. Others don’t. Some companies make it work. Others struggle. But rather than being defensive about it and saying one way is right and the other is wrong, maybe it’s just… different. 👀 And different doesn’t mean worse. What’s been your experience?

We heard a story of a team member who was on track to become a supervisor and was done dirty by her manager. She was given a plan and told she needed to complete each step before she could move into the role. It would take 3 months, but if she followed the plan, the role was hers. That hadn’t been her company’s usual process, but management told her it was a recent change and that this was how they would approach it going forward. She agreed it sounded fair and got to work. Then, a new team member joined in the same role as her and was immediately promoted to the role promised to her. - No plan was needed in their case. - It took weeks, not months. - Management didn’t communicate with her about the promotion - it was simply announced. The thing is, if she was given an explanation that the new team member already had the experience or ability required for the role, and therefore didn’t need the plan, she could accept that. But to be passed over and have her promotion delayed without even the courtesy of an explanation was a slap in the face. Careless management has consequences - a once loyal team member will find themselves looking for a new job if they feel unappreciated. Plans change, but when they do you need to keep your team in the loop. Loyalty is a two-way street - if you fail to prioritise your team’s needs, don’t be surprised when they leave for someone that will. Agree? — Michael Twiddy

Tom used to think leadership was: - Dictating how things should be - Being the best - Firing people Now he knows that leadership is: - Catching them in the act of doing something right - Setting a goal and getting out of their way - Supporting their development In other words: It's not about you. It's about them. Agree?

Tom will never forget his first interview: - The Tasty House Chinese restaurant in Chippenham - He came in for a chat, then started work (frying sweet and sour chicken balls) 15 minutes later From interview to offer: 10 minutes. From offer to start date: 5 minutes. No: - Endless series of interviews - Free work required (e.g. a test task) - Unnecessary reference checks Things were simple back then: A hiring manager would get to know the person. Now an AI tries to interpret a CV. Hiring isn't hard. When you focus on the human. Agree?
