Non-profit Organization Management

We redistribute surplus food to charities that turn it into meals. We are doers. We are a community. We change lives.

About us

FareShare is the UK’s national network of charitable food redistributors, made up of 18 independent organisations. Together, we take good quality surplus food from right across the food industry and get it to over 8,000 frontline charities and community groups. The food we redistribute is nutritious and good to eat. It reaches charities across the UK, including school breakfast clubs, older people’s lunch clubs, homeless shelters, and community cafes. Every week we provide enough food to create over two million meals for vulnerable people. Today we are launching our manifesto ahead of the General Election, calling on the next Government to commit to delivering more surplus food to those in need. Titled “Where’s the Food? Strengthening Communities Through Surplus Food Redistribution”, the manifesto lays out measures to incentivise businesses to redistribute more of their surplus, proposals to support the redistribution sector and strengthen communities in the process, and a plan for a wider food system reset. We are calling for: 💚 Subsidies for farmers to cover redistribution costs 💚 Tax benefits for businesses donating surplus food 💚 Mandatory food waste reporting 💚 Clear guidelines for ‘good samaritans’ on food donation safety 💚 Sustained funding for farm level food redistribution 💚 A UK-wide plan to end charitable food aid 💚 Resources for local food waste and food security projects By working together, government, the third sector, and industry can overcome the challenges to redistributing surplus – and ensure more food reaches the people who need it. This summer, Greencore kindly donated to FareShare which will help us get more food to charities across the UK 💚 The money was raised by including FareShare as a charity that colleagues could select when filling out their employee survey. Each survey filled out, gave the opportunity for Greencore colleagues to choose a charity that Greencore would donate 50p to 📝 Greencore has been working with FareShare since 2007, providing a wide range of food, from sandwiches to sauces and branded stock form their direct-to-store distribution operation. Recently, Greencore were at the forefront of the Coronation Food Project, donating over 220 tonnes of food to this initiative. Thank you so much Greencore, we are so grateful for your partnership and for the ways that your colleagues come together to support us 🍏

If you haven’t already heard the news… we are thrilled to share that FareShare is partnering with KPMG UK over the next three years 💚 🎉 This partnership will provide FareShare with support across fundraising, volunteering and pro bono: making a transformational difference to our work. Not only will KPMG’s fundraising target of £1.5 million help us get more food to those who need it most, this strategic partnership will also benefit all areas of our work, enabling us to continue strengthening communities across the UK. It’s been an exciting couple of months, working behind the scenes to get the partnership ready to launch. Here are some photos to show what we’ve been getting up to so far, including hosting Jonathan Holt, KPMG’s CEO at FareShare Midlands and visiting SOFEA in Didcot with KPMG’s CSR team. We are looking forward to seeing what we will achieve together 🍏

A huge thank you to the team of 13 senior leaders from Yorkshire Building Society who spent the night under the stars in aid of FareShare 💚 FareShare’s very own Kris Gibbon-Walsh, Gareth Batty MBE and George Wright were joined by several senior leaders including Chief Executive Susan Allen, OBE, Chief Financial Officer Tom Ranger and Interim Chief Commercial Officer, Thomas Simpson Such an event is so important to the wider work we do: 7% of charities we support reported Homeless People and Rough Sleepers as their main beneficiary group. A further 29% of charities reported reaching homeless people and rough sleepers as an additional beneficiary group This means that overall, 36% of charities, that are supported through food from FareShare reported providing support to homeless people and rough sleepers So far they have raised over £13,000! Thank you so much for your support 💚

📢 Call to Action for Food Waste Fund! 📢 More than 900 charities have written to Chancellor Rachel Reeves, calling on the government to save a £15m food waste fund threatened with the axe in the forthcoming budget. FareShare CEO Kris Gibbon-Walsh, said: “The food redistribution sector helps transform surplus food into stronger communities. These local charities turn food that would otherwise go to waste into meals, providing a gateway to other essential services that support people in need. The Felix Project CEO, Charlotte Hill OBE added: “It is a scandal to see food, grown on UK farms, going to waste, especially given the increasing number of people who are experiencing food insecurity.” Check out the article from The Grocer here https://lnkd.in/eTHgdGUQ To find out more about our manifesto visit https://lnkd.in/esUrrRf8
