Non-profit Organization Management

We redistribute surplus food to charities that turn it into meals. We are doers. We are a community. We change lives.

About us

FareShare is the UK’s national network of charitable food redistributors, made up of 18 independent organisations. Together, we take good quality surplus food from right across the food industry and get it to over 8,000 frontline charities and community groups. The food we redistribute is nutritious and good to eat. It reaches charities across the UK, including school breakfast clubs, older people’s lunch clubs, homeless shelters, and community cafes. Every week we provide enough food to create over two million meals for vulnerable people. Today we are launching our manifesto ahead of the General Election, calling on the next Government to commit to delivering more surplus food to those in need. Titled “Where’s the Food? Strengthening Communities Through Surplus Food Redistribution”, the manifesto lays out measures to incentivise businesses to redistribute more of their surplus, proposals to support the redistribution sector and strengthen communities in the process, and a plan for a wider food system reset. We are calling for: 💚 Subsidies for farmers to cover redistribution costs 💚 Tax benefits for businesses donating surplus food 💚 Mandatory food waste reporting 💚 Clear guidelines for ‘good samaritans’ on food donation safety 💚 Sustained funding for farm level food redistribution 💚 A UK-wide plan to end charitable food aid 💚 Resources for local food waste and food security projects By working together, government, the third sector, and industry can overcome the challenges to redistributing surplus – and ensure more food reaches the people who need it. Earlier this year, we celebrated a major milestone in our incredible partnership with Tesco- together, we have redistributed the equivalent of 220 million meals! This food is vital to so many charities and community groups across the UK who use the items they receive from Tesco to feed people in their local communities. Tesco is committed to reducing food waste across all its operations and recently participated in the Champions 12.3 events at NYC Climate Week ’24 on “Fighting Food Loss & Waste for a Resilient Future” 💪 Thank you so much Tesco for your continued support of FareShare and helping us get food to thousands of organisations across the UK 💚 📷 pictures from some of our wonderful organisations: Ashton Pantry Wigan, Blackpool foodbank, Christians Against Poverty Greenisland, Tiphereth Bluebell Cottage, Port Grocery, SFiCe, Rock Foundation, UCKG

The volunteer portal for the Tesco Winter Food Collection is now LIVE! 🥫   Between 28-30 November, we’re collecting long-life food items to help support our network of charities and community groups this winter. We know, in stores where volunteers are present, customers are four times more likely to donate to FareShare!    Can you support us by volunteering for a three-hour shift in your nearest Tesco store? 💚   Head to our website to find your nearest store and sign up for a shift! https://lnkd.in/e47PdR4

Oh what a night! We are absolutely thrilled that together FareShare and The Felix Project have been awarded Campaigning Team of the Year at #CharityTimesAwards 2024 for our Where's The Food? campaign 💚 We believe no good food should go to waste. In the midst of a climate crisis, and with record levels of food insecurity, it doesn't make sense to be throwing away perfectly good food. This joint campaign with The Felix Project calls on the Government to take urgent action and help to deliver million meals to the people most affected by the cost of living crisis. Our work is far from over, and as winter approaches we will be supporting our network of over 8,000 frontline charities by helping to turn surplus food into nutritious meals. Thank you so much to Charity Times for this award, and to each person who has helped us along the way! #CharityTimesAwards

Thanks so much iNHouse Communications. Our partnership is vital to ensure that those in the corridors of power understand the need for progressive policy that will mean we can redistribute more food to people in need, and strengthen more communities around the United Kingdom 🍏

iNHouse was proud to partner with FareShare UK keeping Ministers, MPs and journos fuelled with delicious Change Please coffee at the Labour Party Conference.   Each coffee cup served up in the iNHouse Lounge linked to FareShare's wheresthefood.org.uk campaign, calling on the government to support the previously announced £15 million ‘Farm Gate Food Waste Fund’, and work with businesses and charities to contribute to change through redistributing good to-eat surplus food.   The iNHouse Lounge will be returning to Birmingham for Conservative Party Conference on Sunday and we look forward to welcoming familiar and new faces, with more coffee!

🍅 FareShare at the 2024 British Tomato Conference 🍅 Our Produce Commercial Managers, Emma Brown and Emma White, will be attending the British Tomato Conference 2024 on Thursday, 26th September! 🎉 British Tomato Growers' Association This year’s theme, "Balancing Business and Environmental Sustainability", aligns with our mission at FareShare. By redistributing surplus food, including tomatoes from our amazing produce partners, we ensure that nutritious food reaches the people that need it most while positively impacting the environment. We are looking forward to catching up with our partners and discussing how we can continue to make a positive impact together, and forming new connections with growers we have not worked with yet. This photo shows tomatoes at FareShare East Anglia from one of our wonderful suppliers Suffolk Fresh 💚 For more details about the event, visit: https://lnkd.in/eYZedTP9

Last weekend, FareShare staff made their way into Tesco stores to support with the amazing Golden Grants initiative! 🥇   Customers were asked to take a token from a bag and, if they picked the special golden token, they could choose which charity would receive an amazing £5,000 grant from Tesco to help with their work in the local community supporting children and families.     A fantastic initiative from our partners at Tesco and a huge congratulations to all the hardworking charities and community groups that received their grants! 💚

What an honor! Our collaboration with The Felix Project on the Where’s The Food? campaign was awarded a highly commended award by the #thirdsectorawards 🎉 A huge thank you to the #thirdsectorawards for recognizing our campaign with our amazing partner and friend, The Felix Project. This campaign calls on the Government to take urgent action and help deliver 100 million meals to the people most affected by the cost of living crisis. As winter approaches, getting food to the people who need it most is more important than ever, and we’re so proud that this vital work has been recognized. We also want to give a huge shoutout to the Felix Kitchen team, who were nominated for Frontline Team of the Year. It’s an incredible recognition of their work 💚

Last week, we were excited to join the team at FareShare East Anglia for the ceremonial launch of their new Ipswich site! 🍏 Last year the team at East Anglia, which is largely made up of volunteers, distributed 1.6 million meals via over 140 charities and local organisations. In the face of growing demand, the move to a larger premises, thanks to support from Comic Relief, will enable FareShare to provide more surplus food, that would otherwise go to waste, to local communities and people in need across the region. We were joined by Deputy Mayor of Ipswich, Councillor Lynne Mortimer who cut the ribbon, and Reverend Lawrence Carey from one of our charity members, Triangle Church Ipswich. There were speeches from Mike Barrett, Regional Manager at FareShare East Anglia and Kris Gibbon-Walsh COO of FareShare. To mark the occasion, Emmaus Suffolk's The Royal Oak café kindly provided a delicious spread of food and our wonderful partner Greenyard provided gelato. We know that opening a larger site, with greater capacity, is going to make a huge difference and we’re enormously grateful to all our partners who have helped bring this project to fruition 💚
