About us
As part of fbe, the Forum for Tomorrow (fft) provides unrivalled networking opportunities for young professionals across a wide range of professions within the UK infrastructure, property and construction Industry. Specifically set up for younger members and newly qualified, fft is aimed at 21 to 30 years of age. Some newly qualified may prefer to attend fft events and there is no limit to the age in attending events. fft members focus on developing their networking and business generation skills supporting their career development while continuing their learning. fbe launched fft in 2006 and groups have been set up within the regional structure of fbe. The fbe aim, through fft is to provide for young professionals working within the industry to come together and to develop relationships that will enhance their future careers. Unlike many of the other institutions, the fbe has members from across multiple disciplines and is focused more on the business generation, networking and social aspects of the industry, whilst fbe is hoping to see the future generation sustain the areas of influence and undertake to support the initiatives promoted by fbe and by their continued membership moving into fbe branch activity.

I am deeply grateful to Forum for Tomorrow (fft) for the invitation to lead a placemaking and urban activation walking tour around Manchester last night. It was a real honour to share my insights with such an educated and interested crowd. The tour began at Chapman Taylor's home, the beautiful Bass Warehouse in Castlefield, where we explored the connection between the canal and heritage buildings, highlighting the potential for further activating the water edge. We then moved through newer developments such as Deansgate Square and First Street, focusing on the curation of uses to activate ground floors and the landscaping and urban furniture approach. Our journey included significant historical and cultural stops: the Peterloo Massacre Memorial and Emeline Pankhurst's statue, discussing Manchester's feminist heritage and its spatial responses. We concluded at Canal Street, experiencing the vibrant LGBTQ community and the award-winning Kampus, an exemplary scheme by Chapman Taylor - a model of placemaking with its sensitive adaptation of existing buildings and integration of landscaping. We were really lucky with the weather; the team at Forum for Tomorrow (fft) did so well in booking the sun for our tour! Thank you to everyone who joined us. I truly enjoyed our conversations and am especially grateful to Phoebe Threlfall for the inclusion. It really means a lot to me!
