Site investigation works will soon be carried out as construction of a new office development in Swansea city centre edges closer. Taking place in the area of the former St David’s Shopping Centre site, the works are due to start on Monday March 17 and could take over a week to complete. A "classically-inspired" Swansea office building which was once considered for demolition will be given a new lease of life as flats and commercial units. Two new floors will be added to the former Ty Gwalia building, 7-13 The Kingsway, and a rear garage knocked down and replaced with a six-storey apartment block. People are being asked their views to help shape plans for the sustainable development of Swansea’s White Rock Industrial Heritage Park. The Friends of White Rock, founded in 2013, have made an online survey available as proposals to enhance the area as a recreational, heritage and environmental resource gather pace. Employees in Wales report the lowest productivity levels in the UK, with 76% saying they aren’t as productive as they could be. Swansea has been named as one of the top ten UK cities for owning a commercial property. The new survey looked at major UK cities, assessing a variety of metrics including business closure rates, non-residential burglary and shoplifting rates, retail sales performance, long-term flood risk, empty premises relief and rateable value per square metre to reveal the most and least challenging cities to thrive in commercial property. https://lnkd.in/e-gkipCQ #swansea #business 

A cafe in Swansea has banned phones and laptops for one evening a month in an attempt to encourage customers to have more meaningful interactions. Helen Wilson, owner of Ground Plant Based Coffee in Brynmill, said she disliked the pressure of having her own devices turned on at all times and wanted to offer "a space for people to connect".
