johan jervoe is one of the most accomplished marketers to ever work in finance. To put that in perspective—before taking on the CMO role at UBS, Johan was the CMO behind McDonald's iconic I’m Lovin’ It campaign. If that’s not impressive enough, his creative work at Intel won the coveted Grand Prix award at Cannes Lions. Johan brought that level of creative excellence to UBS at a time when they were in need of rebuilding trust with clients. From enlisting Annie Leibovitz to capture real stories of real clients, to showcasing their unique art collection at Art Basel, to collaborating with Lewis Hamilton to highlight the universal challenges of success. His work changed the way wealth management brands communicate. Even today, you’ll see wealth managers attempting to emulate it, though it doesn’t quite land in the same way. Fast forward to today, UBS is the largest wealth manager on the planet, with $3 trillion in assets under management (AuM). This episode of the Finimize Generation podcast is all about diving into the finer details that turn something from good to great. This interview with Johan is a gift to any marketer right now. As marketers shift their focus away from performance and acquisition, 2025 is shaping up to be the year of brand building and creativity. And for that, there’s no better person to learn from than johan jervoe. We discuss: 🔷 What makes a great CMO 🔷 Identifying unique customer insights 🔷 How to create work with stopping power 🔷 Working with celebrities and influencers 🔷 Building a brand at scale 🔷 Fostering employee advocacy 🔷 The importance of hard work as the key to success Listen to the full conversation here: https://lnkd.in/eX29JTPR Full video in the comments 👇 P.S. In my first marketing job, I remember seeing one of Johan's campaigns for UBS. He commissioned a 12-foot, two-tonne piano to record the three notes you hear at the end of every UBS ad. The sound is unmatched—bolder, brighter, and better than any other piano in the world. That attention to detail in showcasing their commitment to excellence left a lasting impression on me, and I believe it still sets the gold standard for wealth management marketing today. You can find 'Three Chords and The Truth' on YouTube, worth a watch.

What separates a good CMO from a GREAT CMO? A clip from my chat with Alex Craddock, CMO at Citi and former CMO at BlackRock, iShares & HP Hewlett Packard. Today, the Chief Marketing Officer holds the most complex role in the C-suite. The modern CMO needs to be an expert in: - Business strategy and modelling - Customer research and insight - Communication and leadership - Data, technology, and innovation - Advertising and creative execution - Brand building and reputation management - Content creation and distribution (both organic & paid) The role is only becoming more complex, to name a few things top of mind for your CMO right now... Media channels continue to expand and introduce new formats. Artificial intelligence is accelerating with broadening use cases. The increasing need to measure real-time attribution and find efficiency. Which is why... Good CMOs can adapt and take risks while delivering on business goals (*read: revenue). Great CMOs are visionary leaders who inspire those around them—staff, partners, and customers — to join them on a mission that requires significant change. If you’re a marketer working in financial services, you’ll want to listen to the full episode of Finimize's Generation Podcast on Spotify: https://lnkd.in/eWJKT2Y8 P.S. Great CMOs also deliver on business goals (*read: revenue) 😉

After Alex Craddock and his team repositioned the iShares brand, AuM grew by $2 trillion in just three years 🤯. Alex is one of the most accomplished CMOs in financial services. This interview is a masterclass in marketing. Alex shares his biggest lessons from his time as Chief Marketing Officer at BlackRock, iShares, HP Hewlett-Packard, and now Citi. The scale of success that iShares and BlackRock achieved during his tenure as CMO is mind-blowing. But driving outsized business outcomes is a recurring theme on his résumé. Alex also repositioned Hewlett-Packard to become the #1 PC brand globally. Earlier in his career, he repositioned Honda to triple its market share in just 3.5 years. In a world where marketers are under increasing pressure to grow revenues on shrinking budgets this episode lifts the lid on how to build a marketing team that goes beyond sales enablement and becomes an essential strategic function. He shares: - What makes a great CMO - The evolving responsibilities of a CMO - The insight that led to iShares' success - Understanding the millennial investor - Building successful teams - How to identify a winning creative idea - How to get the most from partnerships - Establishing buy-in across the business - The value of mentorship Before the episode, I did some research with former colleagues of his. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Alex is a highly respected leader who not only delivers financial success but also fosters the growth of his team members during tough economic cycles. So I highly recommend listening to the end of the episode, where we discuss his process for nurturing talent. Full episode in the comments 👇 P.S. Next week I'll publishing an episode with the CMO that turned UBS into the world's #1 wealth manager. Subscribe to the newsletter to be the first to hear it.
