One of our favourite CPD Sessions to deliver in person. We are able to amend this session to focus on the areas of maths that you are focusing on currently. Yesterday we covered the principles of the CPA approach through calculations and also looked at the links between factors, multiples and fractions. If you are interested in our in-person CPD Sessions, take a look at our website www.first4maths.co.uk or message Toni Priddey for more information. #cpd #cpdtraining #mathscpd #primarymaths

Our final Zoom session of the term. Join Toni to evaluate the Autumn Term and consider the progression in Division from Year 3 - 6. This is a challenging area that lacks some clarity around what should be taught in each year group so the team we have spent time unpicking all the range of guidance available. We look forward to hearing the thoughts from our Subject Leaders and providing guidance on how to support your KS2 Teachers.

Thanks to Bruche Primary for suggesting this lovely Christmas activity on our Christmas zoom support session. It can be amended to suit different age groups practising number bonds, counting and subitising. Have 10 bricks per child. Roll an adapted die with numbers 1-3 on. Can children subitise or count the dots to see how many bricks to collect? Can they apply the cardinal principle to stop when they have taken the number of bricks they have rolled? Can they count the number of bricks in each wall? Can they apply number bonds to 10 to work out how many more bricks they need to finish their wall? Can they say whose wall has more or fewer bricks? By changing the number of bricks to 9, you can practise bonds to 9 for older children who already know the bonds to 10. You could also use 20 bricks and a standard die or even a teen number to practise bonds within 20. The first child to finish their wall can put the elf or Santa toy on top. Extend the reasoning by discussing the game afterwards. Ask questions like. Which number did you want to roll? Why? If I was really lucky, what is the smallest number of dice rolls I could make to build a wall? Which numbers would I roll? Is there more than one way to do it in that many rolls?
