Nobody saw our billboards 💔 And we're not surprised. In a recent survey of Flo members, more than half said they don’t feel adequately informed about perimenopause, its potential symptoms, or its effects on their health.* Like so much of female health, perimenopause and menopause are chronically under-researched, misunderstood, and commonly misrepresented in media and society. This can leave us with symptoms we're not ready for, not to mention a lack of answers and support. With this campaign, we hope to raise awareness of a wider range of perimenopause symptoms — the signs we feel but don’t always see. Painting a more accurate picture of this experience is the first step towards changing how the world views — and tracks — perimenopause. *A survey of 1,779 US women 35–54 years old, 2024.

The signs are going unnoticed. We want to paint a clearer picture of perimenopause — one that highlights some of the many other symptoms that can be experienced beyond hot flashes alone. In a recent survey of Flo members*, more than half said they don't feel adequately informed about perimenopause. We're working to change how the world views this natural process, so those of us experiencing symptoms can get the support we deserve. *A survey of 1,779 US women 35–54 years old, 2024.

We had an exciting week of discussing all things Lithuanian tech talent ecosystem last week! The Vice Minister of the Economy and Innovation of the Republic of Lithuania, Karolis Žemaitis, met with our CEO, Dmitry Gurski, Chief People Officer Ann Roberts and VP of Engineering Simonas Razminas to congratulate us on our unicorn status! This milestone is a testament to the supportive ecosystem that the Ministry of Economy and Innovation foster for innovation and entrepreneurship in Lithuania. Nearly half of the population in the US and the UK are health app users, but how many of these apps deliver proven health benefits? Flo’s Science team recently published a scoping review in BMC Digital Health, revealing that “the majority of mHealth apps are released with little evidence base.” The team analyzed hundreds of papers on health apps to identify studies in which D2C app developers measured health outcomes by assessing efficacy or effectiveness. Their review encompassed 47 peer-reviewed studies from the last five years, focusing on apps with at least 50,000 downloads to ensure relevance to broad consumer audiences. A few key insights: 📊 Despite the existence of over 350,000 health apps, there is a striking lack of scientific studies validating their effectiveness in improving health outcomes. ✅ It’s possible to use rigorous, high-quality testing methods, such as RCTs, even at the start-up or scale-up stage.  🔍 There is a lack of adequate representation in the majority of studies that test health apps. 🌎 More guidelines and best practices are needed to support robust science in the app development process. Scientific evidence is the cornerstone of health and medicine. Apps that help people manage their health must be scientifically validated to ensure they provide safe and reliable guidance to deliver real, measurable health benefits. “Promoting evidence-based practices in digital health should be a priority for organizations in this space,” the team concludes. We couldn’t agree more, which is why we were so excited to tell you about the results of Flo’s first randomized controlled trial study a few weeks ago, which showed improvements in women’s health literacy and well-being when using Flo.  Congratulations to Liudmila Zhaunova, Anna Klepchukova at Flo and their collaborators Carley Prentice, Henry Potts, and Sonia Ponzo. Our CEO, Dmitry Gurski, recently sat down with Harry Stebbings, host of 20VC podcast. They discussed Dmitry's inspiring journey from potato farming in Belarus to scaling Flo to over 70 million monthly active users. Dmitry's entrepreneurial journey didn't begin with anything flashy or traditional. Instead, it started with him gathering mushrooms. This journey taught him about patience, resourcefulness, and how to spot an opportunity where others might not see one. That mindset, seeing value where others don't, has followed Dmitry ever since. Tune in to hear insights on entrepreneurship, scaling a successful business, and the lessons learned along the way. Harry described it as “one of the best interviews he has done.” We will let you be the judge. https://lnkd.in/eVeV_ASs
