FluoRok reinvents this centuries-old process, bypassing completely this dangerous intermediate to access fluorochemicals. Its innovative solutions lower CO2 emissions, reduce costs and enhance manufacturing safety.    FluoRok leverages a large set of raw materials, including high and low purity mined fluorite, as well as fluorinated waste derived from the fluorochemical and semiconductor industry. Business Development Director, Andrew Schwarz and Technology Lead, Jamie Ferguson-Leitch are looking forward to sharing how FluoRok's ground breaking technology will revolutionise the production of Li-ion battery salts delivering vastly improved safety and manufacturing costs as well as lower carbon emissions.

FluoRok recently met partners from renowned deep-tech innovation centre CPI at their Sedgefield facility. Along with WMG, University of Warwick, FluoRok and CPI are collaborating on a feasibility study grant of £750k awarded by UK Research and Innovation via its Faraday Battery Challenge to accelerate FluoRok's disruptive chemical processes.    The project focuses on FluoRok’s ground-breaking technology for the HF-free manufacture of electrolyte salts (e.g. LiPF6). These fluorine-containing materials are key components in Li-ion batteries yet are almost entirely manufactured in Asia-Pacific via a hazardous and poorly sustainable process based on the highly toxic chemical hydrogen fluoride (HF). This project will enable FluoRok and CPI to scale-up HF-free technology towards the design of FluoRok's pilot plant, while WMG, University of Warwick’s electrolyte testing in Li-ion batteries will ensure the required quality standards for mass adoption.
