It was fantastic to collaborate with Lloyds Banking Group and Enigio on a solution that utilises smart contracts with programmed business logic for instant on-chain payment settlements for digital trade documents. Together we worked on a pilot involving the settlement of a digital bill of exchange (dBE) generated through Enigio’s trace:original solution. Blockchain technology can greatly minimise the friction and risks associated with documentary trade transactions. This breakthrough facilitates immediate, programmable settlements available 24/7, marking another significant progress towards transforming our future financial market vision into reality. A whitepaper outlining the advantages of integrating an on-chain payment settlement rail with a digital document solution will be released soon.
Lloyds Corporate & Institutional has brought together two cutting edge fintechs Enigio and Fnality International from its investment portfolio to develop a solution that leverages smart contacts with programmed business logic to instantly settle payments on-chain for digital trade documents. The teams collaborated on a proof of value experiment involving settlement of a digital bill of exchange (dBE) created on Enigio’s trace:original solution. The dBE contained embedded data points based on the International Chamber of Commerce's Digital Standards Initiative’s Key Trade Documents and Data Elements report. Upon completion of pre-defined criteria, the dBE settled across the Fnality £ Payment system to UBS. The parties have worked together on a whitepaper (to be released shortly) detailing the benefits (including removal of payment cut-off times and instantaneous settlement) of integrating an on-chain payment settlement rail to a digital document solution, focussing in on a digital trade use case (Settlement of a sight dBE under a documentary collection). By leveraging blockchain technology, we can significantly reduce the friction and risks currently associated with processing documentary trade transactions. This innovation enables instantaneous, programmable settlements around the clock. We are thrilled to integrate two cutting-edge solutions that Lloyds Banking Group has invested in, reinforcing our dedication to enhancing client experiences and providing seamless, secure financial services.
