🌍 The Devastating Impact of Deforestation 🌳 Reading the recent feature in The Guardian was a stark reminder of the ongoing destruction of our planet’s forests, which we find deeply saddening. As an organisation dedicated to reforestation and landscape restoration, we understand the crucial role forests play in maintaining biodiversity and regulating the climate. The article highlights the alarming pace at which industries like beef, soy, palm oil, and nickel mining are driving this destruction. We must work collectively to protect what remains and restore what has been lost. 🌱 "Almost 10 million hectares of tropical rainforest – an area equivalent to 10 New York Cities – were destroyed in 2022 alone, driven by agriculture and mining. This destruction is not just a threat to wildlife but to the people who rely on forests for their livelihoods and as a buffer against climate change." Welcome autumn—the season of change! 🍂✨ As the days grow shorter and the air crisper, nature begins its most vibrant transformation. The forests turn into a visual treat of golden hues before the deciduous trees drop their leaves to conserve water and energy. With less foliage, trees lose less water through evaporation, helping them survive when water is scarce. The falling leaves also send nutrients to the roots and enrich the soil. Animals prepare for the colder months—storing food, growing thicker fur, or building nests in tree hollows to stay warm. This season of reflection and renewal reminds us of nature’s steady rhythm, inviting us to embrace these cycles and give back to the forests. Join us as we continue our reforesting efforts and help support the ecosystems that sustain us all. 🌳💚 What do you love most about this time of year? Let us know in the comments! #AutumnEquinox #ForestsWithoutFrontiers #NatureBalance #Reforesting

🌳 Forests Are Our Lifeline 🌍 Forests are home to around 80% of terrestrial biodiversity and absorb almost one-third of the carbon dioxide released from burning fossil fuels every year (source Greenpeace UK), stabilising our climate and protecting vital ecosystems. Yet, they’re under threat from deforestation, harming both nature and communities. Forests and trees are essential for so many reasons, including: · Water: They regulate the global water cycle, improve water quality, and prevent pollution. · Habitats: Forests provide habitats for countless species, from insects to large mammals, ensuring the balance of natural ecosystems. · Jobs: Forests provide 86 million green jobs worldwide. · Food: A critical source of food, especially for those in extreme poverty. · Mental health: Spending time in forests boosts mental well-being and reduces stress. · Protection: Forests guard against storms, floods, and landslides. · Soil: They conserve and enrich soil, vital for agriculture. · Wood and paper: Forests supply essential materials for daily life. · Shelter: They offer shelter to millions of people globally. Join us this autumn for our tree-planting events and be part of the solution. Together, we can restore nature and build a greener, healthier future. 🌿 #ProtectOurForests #BiodiversityConservation #NatureHealing #SustainableForests #ForestsForTheFuture #ForestRestoration #ForestsForClimate #CarbonAbsorption #ForestWaterProtection #ProtectWildlife #HomesForWildlife #GreenJobs #ForestFoodSecurity #NatureAndWellbeing #NaturalDisasterShield #ForestSoilHealth #SustainableResources #ForestsProvideShelter #forestswithoutfrontiers

🌱 Restoring Romania’s Forests 🌳 In partnership with Foundation Conservation Carpathia, we’re planting native saplings, grown locally in the Carpathian Mountains, to restore degraded land and rebuild wildlife corridors. Conservation Carpathia manages tree nurseries throughout the region, cultivating saplings under organic, chemical-free conditions. From small sites under old-growth canopies to larger nurseries, they ensure that each tree is grown sustainably and in harmony with the natural environment. Together we are supporting their vision of transforming these areas into thriving, closed forests over time. Wildlife has already begun returning to the restored regions, a testament to the success of this collaborative effort. Join us this autumn as we continue our tree-planting mission in Romania. Connecting with Nature: A Path to Better Mental Health 🌿 At Forests Without Frontiers, we believe in nature’s profound impact on wellbeing, which is why our tree-planting events go beyond rewilding. Discover how connecting with the outdoors boosts happiness and purpose in this extract from a recent feature in The Guardian. A major scheme helping people in England connect with nature led to big improvements in mental health, a report has found. The prescribing of activities in nature to tackle mental ill health has benefited thousands of people across England, a government-backed project has shown. More than 8,000 people were helped to take part in activities including nature walks, community gardening, tree planting and wild swimming. It is thought to be the largest such project in the world so far. The results showed that after taking part in the schemes, people’s feelings of happiness and of life being worthwhile jumped to near national averages, while levels of anxiety fell significantly. The project also found the cost of a green prescription was about £500, making it cost-effective compared with other treatments. Cognitive behavioural therapy costs about £1,000 for 10 sessions.
