  • Mental health is a global challenge, particularly among students. A survey by Student Minds reveals that 27% of students have a diagnosed mental health condition, while 57% self-report struggles with mental health. As Richard Le Sueur highlights in a recent article "Healthier Campuses, More Productive Students – A New Holistic Approach", addressing these issues requires a comprehensive roadmap that prioritises early intervention, holistic support services, and a strong culture of wellbeing within educational institutions. At Forsta Projects, we are proud to have supported the The University of Huddersfield in making history as the first British university to achieve WELL Certification. Their Jo Cox More in Common Centre—a welcoming, inclusive student faith centre—has earned WELL Platinum Certification, setting a powerful precedent for integrating health and wellbeing into campus environments. This milestone demonstrates how universities can embrace WELL’s scalable approach—starting with the WELL Health-Safety Rating to enhance policies and operations, then expanding towards full WELL Certification to create transformative, people-first spaces. Universities are more than academic institutions—they are hubs for learning, social connection, and personal development. By embedding WELL strategies into building design, facility operations, and HR policies, universities can actively improve student and staff wellbeing, fostering healthier and more resilient communities. It’s time to bring WELL to campuses at scale. Let’s create learning environments that put health and wellbeing first. Get in touch to start your WELL journey today! • Natural lighting is essential for employee health and wellbeing, as we highlighted in our previous post. The WELL Building Standard puts this into practice through evidence-based strategies that enhance human health in buildings. A feature we want to highlight today is Feature L05: Daylight Design Strategies. L05 encourages the integration of daylight into building design and the use of windows to provide individuals with a connection to the outdoors. L05.1 Is concerned with indoor daylight planning, this feature can be met either through strategic building and façade design or interior layouts that enhance daylight exposure for workspaces. L05.2 Is related to solar shading and can be met through manual shading controllable by occupants or automated to prevent glare. By implementing these strategies, spaces can support circadian health, connect occupants to the outdoors, and create healthier, more productive environments. Let’s collaborate to bring these principles to life in your next project. Together, we can design spaces that let the light in—and let people shine! • At Forsta Projects, we’re passionate about designing spaces that enhance wellbeing, and the evidence continues to affirm the critical role of natural light in workplace health. Research by Cornell University reveals that access to optimised natural light reduces headaches, eyestrain and blurred vision by 84%.¹ Employees working in well-lit spaces report increased energy and focus, ultimately leading to greater productivity and satisfaction. A separate study highlights how the quality of the view from an employee’s desk and their exposure to natural light directly impact the amount of sick leave they take.² Employees with access to daylight and outdoor views take fewer sick days, leading to healthier teams and reduced absenteeism. The WELL Building Standard’s Light concept reinforces these findings, emphasizing that light isn’t just about visibility—it’s vital for visual, mental, and biological health. Light exposure regulates the body’s circadian rhythms, which influence sleep quality, mood, and even recovery from illness. By integrating natural daylight with thoughtful electric lighting strategies, workplaces can create environments that promote health and productivity. WELL certification ensures your spaces provide enhanced lighting design that positively impacts mental and physical health. • Social equity for too long has remained an abstract, idealistic dimension, yet the impacts of real estate on people and communities can no longer be ignored, they must be embraced to create lasting value. This Commercial Observer article https://lnkd.in/eNDk3yYe brilliantly explains the concept of Social Equity for developers "It means ensuring that development benefits the communities we shape, not just the land we build on. It’s about seeing ourselves not only as builders but as essential partners in creating resilient, welcoming communities that endure." As is embedded in the WELL Building Standard, the article affirms "Community involvement must be an essential part of project design." WELL projects adopt a collaborative approach that considers collective wellbeing and sustainability goals on each stakeholder. "The result? Developments that are better accepted and more likely to thrive over time." As the article highlights, ignoring social considerations can cause major issues down the line, protests, lawsuits and tainted reputation as a result of public discontent, overlooking social equity and ignoring community perspectives can be detrimental for developers. "This shift isn’t about added tasks — it’s about helping developers identify where their projects can make a meaningful social impact, offering a more holistic and lasting value" We can support real estate projects in nurturing equitable, diverse and healthy occupant and surrounding communities and ensure they are recognised and certified, through the WELL Building Standard. We know that serving the community can benefit the bottom line, by creating lasting assets with spaces that can meet long-term needs for all. Embrace Social Equity in Real Estate. • As the news keep showing us, health and safety cannot be taken for granted. With the recent LA fires, we're once again reminded of the value of emergency preparedness. For both businesses and households, emergency management is crucial to be better equipped to deal with unforeseen circumstances, to minimise confusion, improve coordination and ultimately save lives. Whether it's to slow the spread of infectious disease or to handle natural disasters, protocols and supportive resources must be in place to facilitate resilience during, and recovery after, an emergency. We believe the WELL building standard is the perfect place to start emergency-proofing your buildings. In the community section of the standard we can find multiple features that support emergency planning, response and prevention. The requirements are thorough and comprehensive, but fear not, our WELL APs can help you craft the necessary plans and protocols and communicate health and safety efforts with clarity to reassure your occupants and reinforce trust in your ability to withstand emergency situations. Begin today with the WELL Health and Safety Rating, to visibly mark your commitment to keeping your people safe. Our team can support you at every step of your WELL journey! https://lnkd.in/eUdY64T International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) #WELLCertified #WELLHealthSafety #WELLBuildingStandard #BuildingHealth #SafeBuildings

  • According to Gensler’s 2025 Design Forecast "Wellness and sustainability features are no longer nice-to-haves, they are driving market values. An increased emphasis on physical, emotional, and social wellness is supercharging growth in several industries as organizations have begun to seamlessly integrate wellness into their operations to enhance the employee experience and drive measurable economic benefits. Many are also responding to federal and state requirements for climate and ESG disclosures, both of which are tightly tied to improving health and wellbeing outcomes.” At Forsta Projects, we see this as an opportunity to align with the WELL Building Standard to create environments that truly prioritize wellbeing. Here’s how wellness is transforming in 2025: 1. Wellness as an Ecosystem “Wellness ecosystems expand beyond single-serving amenities like juice bars and yoga rooms to integrate wellness into every aspect of physical space and culture, from inclusive design guidelines to nutrition programs, to healthy and sustainable building materials.” The WELL Standard helps businesses implement these holistic strategies for comprehensive well-being. 2. Wellness as a Market Multiplier “The wellness ecosystem is becoming a multiplier that will drive investment and create new value across markets.” Buildings embedded with wellness innovations not only improve quality of life but also command rent premiums and higher lease rates, unlocking growth in stagnant markets. 3. Measuring Wellness to Demonstrate Impact “Increasing stakeholder demands and new regulatory requirements are driving a need to quantify wellness initiatives.” Metrics like walkability, green spaces, and active-design workstations are critical for demonstrating a commitment to wellbeing. The WELL Building Standard provides a science-based framework to measure these outcomes effectively. At Forsta Projects, we help clients integrate wellness into every layer of their spaces and corporate culture. By prioritizing health, sustainability, and measurable impact, we enable organizations to remain competitive and effective in an evolving world. Let’s make wellness the cornerstone of your 2025 strategy. Connect with us to get started with WELL!
