Advocating for Change at UK Universities. Students are owed a duty of care | ForThe100.

About us

Students are entitled to be well treated, something which is currently optional not mandatory. Each year, tragically, 100 students take their own lives whilst at university and 100s more fall victim to other forms of harm; with sexual assault also reaching epidemic levels. In far too many of these cases, students are abandoned by a system that should have provided a safer educational environment. Through our movement, we are advocating for a statutory duty of care for students at university; schools, workplaces and prisons already have it. Our goal is for higher education institutions to tact reasonably and responsibly to ensure the health, safety, and wellbeing of their students and to be held accountable if they don’t. So far, our campaign has achieved significant momentum. 128, 292 supporters signed our Parliamentary Petition and a debate was held in parliament earlier this year. Yet, FE and HE Minister Robert Halfon concluded that he would not be bringing in a statutory duty of care for university students, so the fight is not over. We're not just mums, dads, siblings, friends, and families. We're advocates fighting for student safety and wellbeing, standing up for those who've been lost, harmed and those who are still at risk. Join us in this crucial fight. Let's ensure that student safety becomes a 'legal must', not an option. Together, we can make a difference. ForThe100.
