Stop for a second. Dare to imagine a future where we produce enough safe, nutritious and affordable food for everyone in just and regenerative ways. A future where we have transitioned to thriving food systems that optimise health and nutritional outcomes while restoring key ecosystems, farming and fisherfolk livelihoods, and communities which we depend on. Our new spotlight on the food transition explores what it means to enable a socially just and ecologically safe shift to food systems that are fit for a radically different future. Leading international NGO working with business, government & civil society to solve complex sustainability challenges
About us
Forum for the Future is a leading international sustainability organisation running out of offices in the UK, US, India and Singapore. Since we were founded in 1996, we’ve been working in partnership with business, governments and civil society to accelerate the shift towards a just and regenerative future in which both people and the planet thrive. Climate change, mounting inequality, nature in crisis: the world is facing complex challenges that are intensifying every single day. And while people and organisations are responding, we continue to fall short in transforming the unsustainable ways by which we live and work. That’s why Forum is focused on enabling systemic and urgent action in three potentially game-changing areas. We’re in the business of change - what it means, how to do it, and how to make it last, and are setting our sights on transforming how people and organisations think about, produce, consume and value both food and energy, and on reimagining the purpose of business in our society and economy. Just imagine these three transitions moving at pace and on track to stabilise our climate, restore our natural ecosystems and reverse inequality. It’s an inspiring vision; one we’re working towards with our partners through multi-stakeholder collaborations, one-to-one work and coaching. We also bring a unique blend of futures and systems change thinking to stretch the ambition of our partners as together, we reinvent the way the world works.

📣 Now live: Ecosystem services market programs in action: Learnings from the first-ever application of regenerative cotton protocols in the US during the 2022/23 growing season How can the transition to a regenerative cotton system in the US equitably and effectively support cotton growers and contribute to ecosystem regeneration and just outcomes for producers and their communities? Through this on-farm, producer-centric pilot project in the Southeastern US, Forum and the Ecosystem Services Market Consortium (ESMC) tested how best to finance the transition in the cotton sector to regenerative production practices. This marked the first-ever application of regenerative cotton protocols in the US, along with the development of a specific monitoring and verification system to track, quantify, and verify carbon outcomes on farms using state-of-the-art Measurement, Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MMRV) and bio-geochemical modeling. We found that: ➡ Ecosystem services market programs have potential to drive measurable change in both carbon reduction and soil health, offering a promising path forward for scaling regenerative practices across the conventional cotton industry. ➡ These programs must integrate regenerative food and fiber production and work in collaboration with industry stakeholders. ➡ It is imperative to embed equity, diversity and inclusion considerations into the design of financial instruments and support systems from day one, in deep consultation with community-based organizations and producers themselves. ➡ In addition to certification alignment, it is essential for all stakeholders - especially buyers - to firstly align on sourcing, regenerative targets and definitions, to ensure they reflect the protocols and practices to be applied by the producers. 📩 Download the report to learn more and find out how we're taking these learnings into future growing seasons: https://lnkd.in/gjvusTuR If you're a producer, buyer/ brand, technical support provider, or funder interested in partnering with us in phase 2, contact Natasha Mehta at n.mehta@forumforthefuture.org to get in touch. #RegenerativeCotton #Ecosystemservicesmarkets #GrowingourFuture #foodandfiber

A G20 compact for responsible renewable energy development policy brief, jointly written with Climate Group and Clean Energy Buyers Institute, has been published in T20 Brazil Task Force 2: Sustainable Climate Action & Inclusive Just Energy Transitions. It was co-authored by Forum's Energy Transition Lead, Saksham Nijhawan and Senior Sustainability Strategist, Dr. Ayesha Khosla. This G20 compact provides valuable insights on how governments, businesses, and communities can collaborate to produce and deploy renewable energy in ways that prioritise ecological practices protecting ecosystems and biodiversity, while ensuring people-centered development by respecting community rights and involving them in decision-making. With G20 countries holding 90% of global renewable energy capacity, their leadership is crucial in driving an energy transition that is both just and regenerative.
