We’re doing what we can to change attitudes. It’s not easy and we don’t have all the answers, but we’re doing what we can to create a culture that supports the wellbeing of our people, as well as opening up more honest conversations about our mental health. Today on World Mental Health Day, we're sharing just a few ways of how we’re supporting our people: ◾ All our people are provided with private medical healthcare or a medical cash plan ◾ This includes 24/7 support for any mental health concerns, with recommended therapy included ◾ Qualified Mental Health First Aiders, as you would expect, plus all managers receive mental health training to spot the signs of someone struggling ◾ A ‘lead by example’ approach to talking about our mental health – many people in our company have been amazingly open, and by doing so, have helped to reduce the stigma, allowing for more conversations ◾ There is no badge of honour for working late. We don’t expect it of our people, and we lead by example, understanding only too well the need for work/life balance ◾ For those who choose to work flexibly, we encourage everyone to ‘think before you send’. Can an email or a message be scheduled or wait until the morning? We aim to remove the anxiety around late night emails and feeling the need to respond We know there’s more to be done, so we’d love to know; what initiatives have made a positive difference in your workplace? ❓ What do Top Gun, Back to the Future, Star Wars, Ghostbusters, Blade Runner, Mission Impossible and the RICS Code of Measuring Practice have in common? 📽 Not only were they universally loved originals, they are all examples where their sequels also received a huge following (dare I say it in the case of Star Wars, perhaps even better than the original…cue social media melt down 😉 ). 📐 “Est modus in rebus” – ‘there is measure in all things’, is the RICS’ motto, demonstrating the importance of how measurement underpins everything surveyors advise on, regardless of discipline 📏 . 🎙 I’m delighted to announce RICS has kicked off work to bring back and update the classic that is the RICS Code of Measuring Practice 6th edition. 👍 This 7th edition update will include clarification of the relationship between the COMP and IPMS All Buildings (January 2023). RICS Property Measurement 2nd edition will be withdrawn as part of this project. 📝 Joining me on the Expert Working Group are Paul Bagust RICS, Tom Pugh FRICS (Technical Author) Hollis, Nick French, Alexander Aronsohn FRICS International Valuation Standards Council (IVSC), Max Crofts, Peter Folwell Plowman Craven, Owen Turgoose Fourwalls, Jane Ricketts Valuation Office Agency, Katie Coulson Gardiner & Theobald LLP, Kirsty Saunders Pinnacle Surveyors, Vivienne Poupart, Sam Lloyd Michael Gallie, Alastair Wolstenholme and Mike Gandolfo. It’s been a year since we officially launched Fourwalls Energy. It has been a fantastic first year helping landlords and property/portfolio owners to reduce their energy consumption and get ready for any future regulations. The potential changes to domestic MEES being scrapped in late September was a bit of a blow, but this hasn’t deterred our clients from continuing with improvements and advice to ensure their properties are fit for the future.
