Always good to work with Emily Braeger, money reporter at The i paper. For this article about what parents are looking for from the forthcoming Budget, we provided her with commentary from our client Gingerbread for the single parent perspective >>> In the UK, 1.8 million families are headed by a single parent, according to single parent family charity, Gingerbread. Victoria Benson, chief executive of the charity, said that many single parents feel like they’re a low priority for politicians, so the upcoming Budget is an opportunity for the current Government to “put this right”. She said that one way they could go about doing this is removing the barrier to work, adding: “This would be a win for single parents and a win for the economy. “Too many single parents are locked out of work or stuck in low paid jobs that they are overqualified for just because these roles offer the right hours that allow them to also look after their children. “The Chancellor should look at incentives for employers to create more high-quality flexible and part-time roles.” As well as this, Ms Benson said there are many single parents who want to change jobs or sectors after having children to find a role where they can better balance work and parenting. A common issue is that for those single parents who want to retrain or study, they aren’t entitled to the same childcare support as those in work. She added: “Investment in the Budget to expand eligibility for childcare entitlements would help single parents to reach their full potential.” Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/efNMQe7u
