Education Administration Programs

Our vision is a world where a young person’s start in life does not limit their future.

About us

Future First’s believes that alumni can be inspirational role models and help schools do even more for their students. That is why we help state schools and colleges to build alumni communities. Former students can have a transformative effect on young people's confidence, motivation and skills. For generations, private schools and universities have seen the value in keeping former students engaged after they graduate. These alumni have an affinity to the young people who study in the years after them and are a part of the same community. With the lowest levels of social mobility in the OECD, young people across the UK are having their potential limited. In-school volunteers, financing school trips, e-mentoring programmes and relatable role models can all help equip young people with the support, aspiration and information they need to succeed.

Great piece of work again from our friends at The Sutton Trust! "The map is accompanied by an in-depth analysis of the data which will yield further interesting patterns and trends for leaders to be aware of. One of the most exciting patterns found here relates to attainment and level of social segregation. The analysis shows that there is no correlation between the overall attainment in a local authority and the level of social segregation in its schools suggesting that there would be no negative impact on performance of investing in social diversity in schools. However, a correlation was found between levels of social segregation and size of attainment gap, suggesting that LA’s interested in reducing their attainment gap should consider prioritising improving social diversity in their schools."

💬 "We again find that many schools do not fully serve their local communities, with social segregation apparent." Our new interactive map offers an unprecedented insight into the dynamics of secondary school admissions in England, making available detailed data on the socio-economic profile of individual schools across the country. Our Senior Schools Engagement Manager and former teacher, Charlotte O'Regan, discusses how the map can be used by teachers and school leaders ⬇️

The gap in students from under represented areas going to university has increased further. Action is needed to address this issue.

💬 "Given the challenges of the past few years, it’s remarkable that more disadvantaged young people are going on to university. However, stubbornly wide access gaps remain." It was Results Day for Level 3 qualifications (A Level and equivalent) yesterday. Our analysis has found that the gap in participation in higher education for 18-year-olds from the most under-represented areas and the least has increased since last year. The gap now sits at 25.8%, which is an increase from last year (24.5%), and higher than it was in 2013 (24.4%). More from the yesterday’s results ⤵️ https://buff.ly/3ArLMTB

We know that employer engagement programmes are hugely valuable to young people. In fact, they're linked to better school attendance and higher wages. That is why we are really pleased we were able to support our partners, DRD Partnership (DRD) and their summer school programme for the second year running. DRD opened its Summer School programme to eight young people who were offered an insight into the world of public affairs and strategic communications and given behind the scenes access to public institutions as well as, some training to develop their employability skills.
