What an exhilarating day for the project team at 76 Southbank! Facing fierce competition from 12 other sub-contractors, the unstoppable GBE ‘HORSE DRAGONS’ gave it their all and rowed to victory. After this success, we might even start delivering Plant Modules by Dragonboat as part of our zero-carbon emissions strategy... watch this space! A big thanks to Stanhope PLC and Multiplex for organizing this brilliant Charity Dragon Boat Race in the Docklands. Every penny raised went to support the amazing work of the Stanhope Foundation.

🚧 The Last 5%: The Toughest Part and an Opportunity to Finish Strong 🚧 The final 5% of any construction project is the toughest part. It’s the phase where attention to detail becomes critical, fatigue can set in, and the push to the finish line feels the hardest. At GBE, we engage our "Finish Strong" approach during this crucial stage. We gather our team, reignite their motivation, and discuss the challenges, lessons learned and best practices of closing out multiple workfaces to the highest standard before commissioning commences. Here’s our Project Manager, Michael Casling, engaging with our finishing team at the new Chanel Headquarters in Berkeley Square for Mace. His speech was a powerful reminder of the pride we should all feel being involved with such a prestigious project. This motivational session also brought innovative ideas from the workforce, helping us push through the final 5% and Finish Strong again.

A huge well done to Cormac Lewis on his recent 111 mile run from Wales to Ireland 🏇🏃♂️🏇🏃♂️

    Operations Director at GBE Group

This time last week, I was preparing for the longest run of my life – a run across Wales and Ireland to raise funds for the homeless charity Shelter UK. I am pleased to report that it went well, and I completed 111 miles, having left Wales at 6am Saturday morning, arriving in Cavan, Ireland at 11am the next day. Huge thanks to all who have already donated; we have raised thousands so far. Thank you to everyone who joined me from Porthcawl to Cardiff and Belfast to Cavan – it was an impossible task without their support. Here is a short video my GoPro captured of the run. If you haven’t donated yet, the link is in the comments.

Quick glimpse of the last two LTHW modules being positioned at the 76 Southbank project for Stanhope PLC and Multiplex. These double-stacked modules were delivered, positioned, and connected within one week, significantly shortening what would typically be an 8-10 week traditional build on site. This demonstrates how plant rooms should be constructed: through a series of well-designed modules, all of which have undergone connection alignment, snagging, QA, and sign-off at GBE’s Modular facility over the past three months.

Huge milestone achieved by GBE, Multiplex, and Stanhope PLC on the 76 Southbank project today. The South Multiservice Riser has now been installed from the basement to the top floor. This riser houses the building's primary pipework, ductwork, and electrical services, with each double floor module measuring 7m in height, 3.5m x 3.8m in length and width, and 6-tonne dead weight. We worked with a 35mm tolerance within the shaft, making it a significant lift that required precision engineering, detailed planning and clear communication from start to finish. Traditionally, this complete activity would have taken 3 months on site, with multiple trades working in a high-risk open shaft environment. However, the project accomplished this installation in 5 days, having completed all M&E works, floor installation, QA & snagging and test lifts, off-site over the past three months out at GBE’s Modular Division run by George Stollery . A big thank you to Multiplex for their assistance throughout the lift and to Yellow Lizard Media - Video Production for capturing this fantastic video.
