Last summer, Gemic teamed up with Jigsaw to investigate how young people come to trust information they find online – one key finding was that many of our participants avoided "heavy" content that required traditional literacy skills. We suggested that rather than lament the end of literacy, tech researchers and practitioners find new ways to meet people where they're at. Katie Harbath rightly puts it all together here in thinking about the upcoming American elections, Harris x Call Her Daddy podcast, and more. I've been thinking a lot about the changing information environment and the role of politics and news online. At the Trust and Safety Researchers Conference in September, I saw a presentation by Jigsaw and Gemic that I've become mildly obsessed with. While the sample size is small, it is a canary in the coal mine of how people's engagement with content online has changed and how we need to meet them where they are regarding heavy topics like politics. https://lnkd.in/eGnp44SS
