Industrial Machinery Manufacturing
An industry led collaborative network of innovative companies & educational institutes in the Derry & Strabane area.
About us
GEMX aims to bring together key individuals from the Engineering & Manufacturing Sector to work alongside a range of stakeholders from community and education. They will work together to enhance a very exciting career pathway within the NW region whilst showcasing best practice in industry. Our key objectives are: • To develop a pipeline of sustainable skills to meet industry needs. • To enhance the image of engineering and manufacturing within the NW. • To encourage collaboration between industry and education, embracing innovation. This is an extremely interesting and challenging area of employment with a vast range of opportunities. We have employers in our network from areas such as agriculture, chemicals, printing, food, electronics and clothing. Employment entry levels are varied so interested students can progress their education in a flexible way, with vocational routes on the apprenticeship ladder now being available from Level 2 upwards. Education can continue alongside work if that is how a person prefers to progress within their career. Employers in the group will collaborate and share best practice to enhance opportunities for diversity and innovation within the areas of engineering and advanced manufacturing. GEMX is funded by Invest NI as part of the Collaborative Growth Programme.

We've just returned from a fantastic (frosty) few days on site in Northern Ireland with the team at McColgans. An award winning Food Manufacturer, McColgans have already built a strong team, with a palpable and supportive community spirit. As they work towards a culture of excellence, they are embracing new technologies and practices to get the best out of their team and facilities. Thingtrax are proud to be part of their Industry 4.0 journey. A big thanks to William McColgan, (pictured here with our CEO Paul Reader), Grainne Hampton, Joanna Peplinska and the entire McColgans team for such a warm welcome.

As part of a Year 12 Taster Day at Limavady Grammar School, we facilitated another Meet the GEMs event. This enabled young people, who were interested in finding out more about engineering, to talk to process engineers, mechanical engineers, product designers and chemical engineers in an informal session. Engineering is such a vast subject area that events like this are really enjoyable while also sparking further interest and enabling questions to be asked and answered. To hear from these GEMs and others, go to https://lnkd.in/dMmehiD7 Big thanks to our companies for supporting this and all our school events Seagate Technology The LYCRA Company North West Regional College (NWRC) AE Global MIM Mechanical Installation and Maintenance (N.I) Ltd Invest Northern Ireland
