It was a great day at Oxford yesterday. It was #OpenDoors, the sun was out! ☀ While the streets and libraries were busy welcoming visitors, a group of us working on digital technologies for young children spent the day speaking about how #Generative #AI technology can contribute to a good future for young people. We were an interdisciplinary group of entrepreneurs, technologists, academics, and policy folks. I found the conversations refreshing, constructive, and solution oriented. We kept coming back to the pace of AI advancement and recognized a "Need for #Speed" combined with "Need for #Safety". We spoke about how we need to escape the pattern of #regulation and #evidence being outpaced by #technology. There were concrete frameworks shared on embracing an iterative approach to research and regulation, and how to think 'minimum viable research' and 'minimum viable policy'. 🔑 I was elated to share some of our latest work at Dost Education, how we use AI and how we embrace iterations. More on this exciting work in a later post 🌈 Special shout out to EkStep Foundation who shared the amazing work they have done with improving reading for young children in India. 🌟 Thanks Reuben College, University of Oxford for bringing together a great group! 🎉

"What if we stopped using our devices forever?" This was one of the bold ideas we explored last weekend at the Generation AI Conference at Reuben College, University of Oxford , where I had the privilege of representing Newstead Wood School, and speaking on a panel alongside experts and students from across the UK. At the event, I shared my thoughts on how AI could reshape key areas of our lives, from revolutionizing social media to enhancing government services. Engaging in discussions with leading voices, I also asked questions about the broader impact AI could have on society, including how we can ensure its development benefits everyone equally. Throughout the day, we heard from Baroness Beeban Kidron, a passionate advocate for ethical AI, who emphasized the importance of protecting young people in an AI-driven world. I also particularly enjoyed Sarah-Jayne Blakemore's lecture, which captivated us with her insights on the relationship between AI and adolescent brain development, highlighting the crucial balance we must strike between innovation and mental well-being. These talks illuminated the extraordinary potential AI has, not only in technology but in shaping the way we live, learn, and govern. The discussions, ranging from ethical considerations to tangible applications of AI, gave me a deeper understanding of both the possibilities and responsibilities we have as the next generation of AI enthusiasts. The experience left me inspired and more determined than ever to explore how AI can be harnessed to create a positive and inclusive future. A huge thank you to Future Foundations for hosting such a transformative event, and to all the brilliant speakers and participants for their insights.
