We've officially launched the Gentoo Trades Academy 🛠️ 👷♀️ Alongside Sunderland College and Bishop Chadwick Catholic Education Trust, we have welcomed 22 students to Sunderland City Campus this week to meet the team who will be helping them achieve their construction qualification while completing their GCSEs. Louise Bassett (FCIPD), chief executive at Gentoo met the students on the day and commented: "I am so proud of all the students today, they all have different aspirations for what they want to do in the future and this is a great opportunity for them and Gentoo." This week, we were delighted to attend the newly launched Chartered Institute of Housing and National Housing Federation's Housing Community Summit 🏠 The event brought together organisations and residents from across the housing sector to truly involve residents in decision making about issues that matter to them. Members of our Customer Committee joined Louise Bassett (FCIPD), Michael McGuigan and Emily Cox MBE at the summit to engage with housing organisations and experts to hear and discuss opportunities and challenges the sector is facing. The conference focused on putting customers at the heart of conversation and provided the opportunity for our customers to share their views and make a difference. #WeAreGentoo

This week, we partnered with the Fans Museum to host community events in our High-Rise residential buildings. ️ The museum showcased their rare collection of football memorabilia and brought together a community of local residents and families. Residents enjoyed trying on shirts owned by iconic football players, holding famous trophies and playing table football! ️⚽️🏆 Local councillors also attended alongside members of our Customer Committee to provide great feedback on engagement events, how we can work with our customers who experience loneliness and tackle anti-social behaviour in the city. #WeAreGentoo

We are proud to support Starts at Home Day 💙 Today is all about celebrating and raising awareness of the value of care and support services. We are supporting the National Housing Federation to call for every decision about care to be a decision about housing. At Gentoo we offer a range of support, from our sheltered housing and extra care schemes for elderly residents to supported housing for young people. We support our customers by providing care and support where needed whilst also helping them to maintain their independence. We are very proud to announce that we have been awarded the highest grading from the Regulator of Social Housing for delivering the outcomes of the consumer standards. Following a recent inspection process, we have been graded as a C1 organisation. We have also retained our G1 Governance grading and V2 grading for financial viability. We are pleased the Regulator has recognised the strength of our governance and the improvements in our financial performance. We have been on a journey over the past 18 months to improve our service to customers and we are delighted to see this has also been recognised by the Regulator. However, whilst we are making good progress, there is still much to do. More than ever, Gentoo is committed to continuing to improve our services to customers and deliver on our Customer Promise. We’ve appointed a new Executive Director of Property.  Marc Edwards, the Group’s current Director of Asset and Sustainability will start the new role on 1 September 2024. This new role combines the current Property Investment, Maintenance, and Sustainability functions as one team. As a member of Gentoo’s Executive Team, Marc will also play a key role in delivering the Group’s Corporate Strategy. Following the completion of a £19 million investment scheme in Pennywell last month, colleagues from our Housing and Property Teams and RE:GEN Group carried out a litter pick yesterday afternoon to ensure the neighbourhood was clean and tidy. This is another example that demonstrates both Gentoo's and our contractor’s commitment to making sure our neighbourhoods and open spaces are places people can be proud of. Blooming with pride! 🌹🌷🌺 Last week, colleagues from our housing and grounds maintenance teams awarded Gentoo customer, Christine Wilson, with the Best Garden Award in our annual Ready, Set, Grow gardening competition. 🏆 Mrs Wilson impressed a panel of judges by showcasing a vibrant garden filled with colourful flowers including roses, tulips and chrysanthemums. 🌹🌷🌺 At Gentoo, we're lucky to have customers who take pride in where they live and work hard to keep their local areas and communities looking their best.
