We’ve moved! Only downstairs, don’t panic 🤣 Since we’ve grown in numbers, we’ve run out of desks. We did consider moving to a hot desk solution but the feedback from the team was loud and clear, everyone prefers their own space. Staff happiness is important to us. We want everyone who works for Geo2 to love it and feel they have a great working environment. Luckily buying the Coniston building back in 2018 turned out to be a great move. There’s plenty of room for everyone on the ground floor – and we’ve even gone all out with brand-new, on-brand blinds. A year ago we were celebrating winning the Brownfield Briefing Best International Project. Due to civil and political unrest in Peru, especially in the Amazonian regions, the national oil infrastructure had been vandalized. In North Peru, the ONP pipeline was cut, causing a crude oil spill that stretched more than 1,600 meters from the break, covering 26,445 square meters and impacting 3,282 cubic meters of a channel connecting to the Maranon River. The impacted area is of local importance for two indigenous Amazonian tribes, San Juan de Mojarayacu and Santa Ana. Geo2 were approached to help design a solution by Ogreen | Outsourcing Green, an in-country team who specialise in spill response and logistics. Peru is catching up fast on contaminated land and water treatment, sadly contractors still generally resort to landfill disposal, but in an environment where the nearest landfill is over 1,000km away, partnering with Geo2 provided a more cost-effective option to treat waste water and material. I had forgotten what a buzz lecturing is. I had an excellent day at the Ground Engineering Magazine conference on Smart Geotechnics + Basements & Underground Structures last week in London. There were some very interesting and insightful presentations on how ever advancing technology can be used in the geoscience and ground engineering discipline, including examples of how this is currently being implemented throughout the sector to improve project efficiencies, reduce risk / cost and ultimately providing better data for engineers to get stuck into!
