A recent safety alert from the HSE highlighted the risk of misleading gas detection readings associated with the use of sampling tubes with pumped gas detectors. Sampling tubes are used to extend the reach of the detection device and/or to allow detection at an increased distance from the user and it is essential when using sampling tubes that you know what gas (es) you are wanting to detect if present. Reactive gases will be absorbed by the tubes if they are not fit for purpose. PTFE or Teflon lined sampling tubes should be used when sampling reactive gases. If you want to ensure that the gas detection system you have is suitable for its intended purpose, our team of specialists can help. You can either call, email or visit our website or ask for one of our specialists to carry out a FREE gap analysis of your business's gas detection needs. #GasDetection #HSEalert #HealthandSafety #GasHazards

Farm animal waste is mixed with plants for the production of biogas. The mixture is processed into a form of liquid manure in a fermentation plant. Millions of bacteria swarm in this mixture to slowly decompose it and cause methane gas to form. GfG has extensive experience of specifying and installing gas detection systems in biogas plants. These historically begin with a free site audit to assess your facility and processes to establish what gas detection equipment is needed to ensure the health, welfare and safety of both your employees and your business. What exactly constitutes a “potentially hazardous atmosphere"? When developing a confined space entry plan, you should always consider that the atmosphere of a confined space can, and often will, change rapidly and you must identify the appropriate mitigation measures that should be taken when change occurs. It is essential to have a person outside the confined space monitoring all hazards and the air quality must be measured before works begin. If you need help or advice about gas detection equipment for confined space entry works, our team of specialists can help. https://lnkd.in/eYUbu4Wd #ConfinedSpaces #ConfinedSapceEntry #GasDetection #HealthandSafety

Part of the water purification process requires using carbon dioxide to change pH levels and clean up wastewater. Gas detection equipment is used to ensure that the correct gas levels are being added to the water and that unsafe levels of gas are not building up. GfG has experience of supplying both fixed and portable gas detection equipment to Water And Sewage Treatment Plants. Ammonia has been used for over a century as refrigeration gas and has no global warming potential or effect on the ozone level. The drawback of ammonia is that it is very toxic with a pungent odour and, in high concentrations, can be flammable. In order to avoid workplace injury and accident, a gas detection system is a necessary risk-reduction measure. Need help or advice? There is always the injection of the human element into any gas monitoring processes and with that comes the margin for error and hearsay. Most gas monitoring systems these days whether they are portable or fixed have a data logging feature. Use it, download it regularly, then there is no room for debate, discussion or error. #Healthandsafety #gasdetection #gasdetectors

The control of hazardous substances follows the “hierarchy of control”. This means that before resorting to the use of protective equipment, there must be an effort made to prevent exposure to the substance, therefore, negating further assessment. Need help or advice?
