This week, we unveiled our specially designed, illustrated map of Govan, created in partnership with the Govan Community Project and Invisible Cities. Designed by participants of the Meet Me in Govan walking tour group and local artist Barry the Cat, the map follows the walking route taken by the group which meets every Thursday. The map was developed in-house by our design team in collaboration with our Community Learning Team, with funding from Farrans Construction, who built the new Govan-to-Partick footbridge. The completed map was presented to the group at the end of this week’s walking tour, which ran from the Pierce Institute to Partick Library. Library visitors can now use the map to explore the area across the river, with a downloadable version available on our website. Invisible Cities in a social enterprise that trains people affected by homelessness to become walking tour guides of their own city, offering alternative tours to tourists and locals. As an organisation in Govan, we’re proud to work closely with our neighbours to support our local community, and create opportunities that celebrate the incredible work of local organisations.
