A new report from Verisk Maplecroft has warned that US political violence conditions are “on a par” with those just before the riots experienced after the death of George Floyd.
That wave of riots in 2020 cost approximately $3bn in Strikes, Riots and Civil Commotion (SRCC) insured losses, the risk modelling firm said, while the January 2021 Capitol riots also underscored the underlying risk of election-related tensions sparking civil unrest.
“Those riots included substantial participation by agitator groups whose presence at demonstrations in the next months could raise the risk of violence,” said Torbjorn Soltvedt, principal analyst at Verisk Maplecroft.
