The Latin American and Caribbean Women's Network for Disaster Risk Reduction, promoted by GNDR, United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), UNDRR Las Américas y El Caribe, and UN Women, met in Panama City last week. This strategic planning day was an opportunity to reflect on the results of two years of work, the key lessons learnt and priorities for the future. Graciela Salaberri, representing GNDR, led the panel: Women, Disaster Risk Management and Networking. The panel heard the experiences of #GNDRMembers: Santa Sandoval Lajara from Servicio Social de Iglesias Dominicanas de República Dominicana, Mónica Cuba Iriarte from Practical Action in Bolivia, and Breny Herrera from Instituto de Investigación, Capacitación y Desarrollo de la Mujer (IMU) in El Salvador. The conversation highlighted the importance of networking as an opportunity to make women's priorities visible. It promoted sisterhood, and demonstrated women's capacities as the principal responders to emergencies, as well as reflecting on the importance of continuing to mitigate the barriers that women still face in the region. As the world's largest network of #CSOs at the forefront of disasters, we remain committed to promoting these spaces and fostering greater inclusion of local organisations. -------- El 28 y 29 de octubre en la ciudad de Panamá se reunieron las representantes de la Red de América Latina y el Caribe de Mujeres para la Reducción del Riesgo de Desastres, la cual está impulsada por GNDR, UNDRR y ONU Mujeres. Esta jornada de planeación estratégica fue una oportunidad para reflexionar sobre los resultados de trabajo durante 2 años, los principales aprendizajes durante este periodo y las prioridades para el futuro. Graciela Salaberri Representante de GNDR en la RED lideró el panel Mujer, Gestión del Riesgo de Desastres y Trabajo en Red, en el cual se compartieron las experiencias de Santa Sandoval del Servicio Social de Iglesias Dominicanas de República Dominicana, Mónica Cuba de Practical Action de Bolivia y Breny Herrera del Instituto de Investigación, Capacitación y Desarrollo de la Mujer (IMU) de El Salvador, miembros todas ellas de la GNDR. Durante la conversación se resaltó la importancia de trabajar en red como una oportunidad para visibilizar las prioridades de las mujeres, promover la sororidad y demostrar las capacidades como principales respondientes ante las emergencias, así mismo, se reflexionó sobre la importancia de seguir trabajando para mitigar las barreras que actualmente viven las mujeres en la región. This #IDDRR we shared stories of how #GNDRMembers are leading the way with youth-led and focused #resilience building. We asked you to vote for the story and photo that resonated most with you. And we're pleased to announce that YouthNet Global received the most votes! 🙌 During the recent devastating flooding in Feni, Bangladesh, young volunteers in partnership with YouthNet, were at the forefront of the response. Through capacity building workshops, the young volunteers were trained in flood preparedness, emergency response, and community mobilisation. The project demonstrates how young people play a vital role in disaster response and climate action, positioning them as frontline defenders of their communities in the face of climate change.
