Most petrol car drivers score just 2 out of 10 for EV knowledge Polling of petrol car drivers by YouGov for the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) has found a ‘poor’ level of knowledge of electric cars. When asked if 10 separate statements about electric vehicles (EVs) were true or false, more than half (57%) of petrol/diesel cars drivers got just 2 or less out of ten correct, with 90% scoring just five or less out of ten. Around a quarter (23%) got none correct. This is affecting drivers’ car choices, with people displaying a poor understanding of EVs being less likely to want their next car to be an EV. Drivers who scored two or less out of 10 were 11 times less likely to want their next car to be an EV than those who scored eight or more out of 10. The EV Drivers’ Manifesto has been shaped directly by and for EV drivers through a series of EVA England workshops. It identifies the key priority areas that are essential to address next as the uptake of EVs continues to grow, helping move the UK ever closer to a majority of EVs composing the UK’s mobility landscape. In much the same way that Government support has been key to securing the initial take-off phase in EVs over the past few years, targeted support will be needed to ensure the next phase of uptake is fair and equitable, inclusive of all income levels, and able to support a growing and complexifying set of charging and access needs. 🔋2024 is already looking bright for the UK EV space. BT Group are starting their initiative to offer charging infrastructure through 60,000 green cabinets. Considering there are just over 53,000 public chargers available today, this will feel like a significant step change in charging accessibility. Especially considering the location of these cabinets being synonymous with local parking areas. And with 38% of people saying they would already own an EV if it weren’t for the issues associated with charging, it’s clear to see both infrastructure and education is required to solve these problems. https://lnkd.in/e-3PH82R
