We firmly believe in the power of movement. Being active helps children and young people look after their minds as well as their bodies. Great to see more research backing this up. #primaryschools #physicaleducation #Schoolsport

Over 1,500 athletes are taking part across 11 sports at the School Games National Finals this weekend, which this year focuses on tackling inequalities. Our CEO, Tim Hollingsworth OBE, explains how through a range of sports like 3x3 basketball, which engages young people from a different communities, to hockey, who’ve been challenged to identify targets like growing the number of players attending national finals from state schools, the School Games are aiming to ensure the talent pools and pathways are accessible for everyone. Whenever a PE lesson is cancelled because the school hall is being used for another activity, the subject is given a lower priority in your school's timetable or funding is moved to other subjects, remind colleagues of the lifelong impact these decisions can have. Showing children being physically active is important and having a high-quality PESSPA curriculum are vital in ensuring your pupils grow up to be physically active adults. #PE #physicaleducation #primaryschool #schoolsport

40% of women say PE in school made it difficult for them to be excited about physical activity in later life. Funded by Sport England, Studio You takes This Girl Can's ambitions into schools and is empowering teachers across the nation to break the PE mould. It's created for girls aged 11-16 who don’t feel PE is for them, with the programme designed to change their mindset and introduce them to a variety of physical activities, including combat, dance, yoga, and fitness. By the age of 16 or 17, 64% of girls will have quit sport. That means that millions of girls and women miss out on the physical, mental and social reward of getting active on their own terms. 🌟 Embracing the Power of Physical Activity for a Healthier Future! 🌟 At Go Well, we passionately believe in the transformative power of physical activity to enhance our lives. Our work is centred on developing healthy minds and bodies through the six dimensions of wellness. The Six Dimensions of Wellness are as relevant to us in our lives as they are to children. 🔍 What is Wellness? Wellness is often misunderstood and confused with similar terms. It’s an active process encompassing physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing - being healthy in body and mind by practicing daily healthy habits. 🏅 The Six Dimensions of Wellness Wellness comprises six key areas: physical, social, intellectual, spiritual, emotional, and occupational. These areas work together to create a balanced, vibrant, and prosperous life. By making simple healthy choices daily, we move closer to achieving wellness. 💪 Physical wellness plays a crucial role in our overall wellbeing. It involves eating well, sleeping well, and exercising regularly. Feeling physically good boosts our self-esteem, aids self-control, and provides a sense of direction. Here are three suggestions for you to achieve optimal physical wellness: Eat Healthily 🥗 A healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables benefits both short- and long-term health. Get the free NHS Food Scanner app and start finding healthier swaps. Exercise Regularly 🏃♂️ Daily activity strengthens both body and mind. Children aged 5–18 should aim for at least 60 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity daily. Adults do at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity a week or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity activity a week. Do strengthening activities that work all the major muscle groups (legs, hips, back, abdomen, chest, shoulders and arms) on at least 2 days a week. Get Enough Sleep 💤 Sleep is vital for physical and mental health. Quality sleep aids development and performance. Join us in making wellness a priority for ourselves and our pupils. Together, we can create a healthier future! #Wellness #PhysicalActivity #PhysicalEducation #HealthyLiving #Wellbeing #PhysicalWellness #HealthyHabits #ChildrensHealth #Exercise #Sleep 4o
