It is with great sadness that we announce that our Chairman and Co-Founder, John Hales, has passed away age 85, surrounded by his family. John started Golden Bear on 12th February 1979 along with his business partner Christine Nicholls. John’s energy, drive and love of the toy industry has infused the business for over 45 years, creating iconic toys loved by children of all ages. Christine Nicholls, Co-Founder and Creative Director at Golden Bear Toys said: “John was the most amazing business partner and friend for over 45 years. Our vision for the business back in 1979 set us on an adventure in the toy industry that has been second to none. On a personal level I will miss him greatly and all his pearls of wisdom, as will everyone at Golden Bear.” John has accomplished much over his long career, including the incredibly successful launch of the Teletubbies toy range, winning Toy of the Year in 1997. He was also extremely proud to receive a lifetime achievement award from the British Toy & Hobby Association in recognition of his work in the industry. John was a passionate member of the racing world, known as one of the leading British-based jumps owners of the last 40 years. He has owned many champions over the years such as his first winner in 1993, One Man, and 2012 Grand National winner Neptune Collonges. John was also very closely associated with Alder Heys Children’s hospital and has a long history of supporting the trust. John would make regular visits to the hospital with his horse Neptune Collonges to visit children and families on the wards, an act that brought great happiness to those who were able to meet the gentle grey horse. The whole Golden Bear team are devastated by the loss of our founder and Chairman. He was a very well-respected figure that will be greatly missed within the close family business. He embodied Golden Bear and leaves behind an extraordinary legacy that the whole Golden Bear family endeavours to maintain in his honour. Our thoughts are with his wife Pat and the rest of his family during this sad time.

WHAT A WEEK! 🤩👏 There was no rest for the wicked after the craziness of The Toy Fair in London last week, as Team GB hopped on a plane ✈️ to Nuremburg for Spielwarenmesse! The gang are all on the ground touching base with the global toy industry, sharing our brand new 2025 lines and the exciting developments we have up our sleeve for this year! 👀 There's still time to visit our stand C-39, Hall 6 and chat to our team and learn more about what Golden Bear have cooking for 2025! 🐻 Not only that, but we are absolutely thrilled that our Smart Ball ⚽ brand has been awarded Europe’s Top Gaining Toy Property for Outdoor Toys 2024 at the 14th annual Circana Toy Industry Performance Awards! 💪 This is an incredible achievement and to say we are ecstatic would be an understatement! 🎉🥂 As always a major shout out goes to our incredible team at HQ for putting their all into everything that they do! It's amazing to see the hard work paying off and we couldn't be prouder of their success! ⭐ What a great year 2025 is turning out to be! 🎉🎉🎉

In many years of attending London ToyFair it was great to be focussing on sports toys yesterday. A more comprehensive roundup to come (Luke Littler’s darts range 🎯) but I wanted to shout out my friends at Golden Bear Toys who are smashing it with their StrikeSphere range - here is Luke’s demo of Soccer Dash - lay out the discs and the ball calls out the colours, touch as many as you can in 30 seconds and as you improve you can space out the discs to make it a bigger challenge. Achieve certain challenges and you unlock Easter Egg modes. Influencers love the range and organically picked it up as did kids, they sold out of Soccer Bot before peak holiday sales last year. 👏🏻 When we talk about tech in sport most tend to focus on apps, data, XR formats in broadcast but there’s more to it than that. There are UK toy companies working in sports tech too. Great to see you Barry Hughes

And just like that, #LondonToyFair 2025 is DONE 👏 What a week it's been showing off our new lines and exciting developments for 2025! We've had an overwhelming response and such great reactions - even winning TWO Hero Toy spots!! Thank you to everyone who visited our stand - the team have had an amazing time catching up with the industry as well as forging new connections and demoing all of our epic new toys and games. A big shout out of course to the amazing Golden Bear team who made this all happen! The months of hard work behind the scenes has absolutely paid off, and this year is feeling like its going to be a good one! (P.S. Don't forget we're doing it all again next week at Spielwarenmesse in Nuremburg next week!)
