“We fundamentally believe local government has a strong play in how we shape place.” “Part of the reason the council invested in Golden Valley is to try and create the preconditions to shape a self-sustaining ecosystem. By bringing in our development partner HBD, we’re confident that by having that local government intervention, we can create a fabulous place that isn’t like a business park but a sustainable community.” Great insights from Gareth Edmundson! 📍 We recently orchestrated an assembly at our Hub8 by Plexal MX Innovation Centre in Cheltenham, which opened last year in collaboration with Cheltenham Borough Council, building on the town’s position as a thriving UK cluster. 🗺️ And it’s that cluster component we explored at our event, Powering progress: How innovation clusters supercharge regional growth. Notably, we covered how alignment between initiatives in Cheltenham, Lancashire, Greater Manchester and Milton Keynes can add significant momentum and benefit on a national scale. 🎤 Ruby Motabhoy, our Senior Lead for National Security, took to the stage to chair a panel exploring the role of local government and academic leaders to understand how they work to drive positive outcomes for the communities and clusters they serve and was joined by: 🗣️ Gareth Edmundson, Chief Executive at Cheltenham Borough Council 🗣️ Mike Johnson, Technology Strategy Advisor at Milton Keynes City Council 🗣️ Dion Williams, Director of Research, Enterprise & Innovation at Lancaster University 🗣️ Alex van Someren, Chief Scientific Adviser for National Security 📰 Get the insights from the group's conversation here https://lnkd.in/eEXnBPvS ✍ by Zen Terrelonge Golden Valley | HBD | Andrew Roughan | Saj Huq | Russell Gundry | Bruce Gregory | Ben Edginton-Thomas | Catherine Hadfield | Tom Marshall | Charlotte West | Francesca C. | Rosie C. | Daisy Culver | #Clusters | #Innovation | #Communities | #Government | #LocalGovernment | #BusinessGrowth

AI isn’t just revolutionising tech, it’s transforming our buildings into intelligent, energy-saving ecosystems. Here’s how: 🌱 Smart Lighting – AI can use sensors to turn lights off when no one is in the room, reducing energy waste. 🌱 Adaptive Heating & Cooling – AI analyses room occupancy, weather forecasts, and thermal dynamics to optimise temperature control, cutting down on unnecessary heating and air conditioning. 🌱 Weather-Smart Windows – AI-integrated windows can detect air quality, temperature, and even upcoming rain to decide when to open for fresh air or stay shut for efficiency. 🌱 Predictive Maintenance – AI monitors building systems, identifying inefficiencies and preventing breakdowns before they happen, saving both energy and money. 🌱 Solar & Energy Storage Management – AI optimises when to use stored solar power, shifting energy consumption to the most sustainable times of day. #ai

🚀 Golden Valley Funds Coding Workshops for Gloucestershire Schools! 🎮 Golden Valley is helping to inspire the next generation of digital innovators by funding Jam Coding workshops in local primary schools. Students at Rowanfield Primary and Hester’s Way Primary are already diving into game design, robotics, and stop motion animation, gaining hands-on experience with essential digital skills that will shape their futures. 💡 What the students are saying: - "It’s really fun to work as a team and build games together!" - "I like Jam Coding because we can make games and build races." - "I love Jam Coding… You make games, work together, and learn more about computers!" - "This is the best club ever, I like making 2D games!" - "It was easy to follow, I would recommend the club to others!" With Golden Valley’s support, these workshops are giving young learners access to cutting-edge technology and hands-on learning, unlocking opportunities they wouldn’t otherwise have. 🎙 Matt Bellshaw, Director at HBD: “We’re pleased to be able to fund these brilliant workshops, making tech fun for pupils while helping to close the inequities in digital skills funding.” 🎙 Georgina Graham, Area Director, Jam Coding: “This is an important age to inspire children and ensure they have the right digital skills for the future. It’s all about unlocking potential!” Golden Valley is a £1bn innovation district driving the UK’s National Cyber Strategy, and these workshops are just one way we’re supporting the future of tech and education.
