Week One of #BCorpMonth is already done and dusted and the GoodFX team have been out and about, pressing the flesh, and meeting fellow impact-focused business leaders IRL. Where have we been? 💙 On Tuesday it was PurposeFest in Bristol - A trip down to the West Country to connect with all manner of businesses who exist for purpose, not just B Corps! 🎤 Beyond Dolly Parton Covers (‘Working 9-5… what a way to make an impact’?) it was a wonderful opportunity to see familiar faces and meet new agents of change. 🌞 Helena, Tori, Lizzi & Marvin spoke to the need of a just transition to Net Zero. Katie, Rav, Alison & Louise reminded us of the continued need for inclusion and equity in development of any ‘sustainable’ solution. Andy and Elly closed a memorable day before People, Planet and Pints took the sunshine stage… 🐙 A day later, on Wednesday the whole team ventured into the Octopus aquarium for the B Finance and Investment Circle, featuring the Natural Capital Connections panel, organised by Lucy from Octopus and George from Centrus . 🚌 Insightful stuff from Gabi, Luke, Tom, Isabel, and Robert who knew the subject inside out, even if the TaskMaster-inspired “bring an object” introduction reminded us of our schooldays and doing last-minute homework on the bus... 🍹 The crowd were well-engaged and the debate lively, meaning the session overran (but nobody was complaining), before continuing at a packed networking drinks. 👀 Please let us know if there are any B Lab UK BCorp Month events we should be attending in the next three weeks in the comments... 🙌 We’ll leave you with a great Clover Hogan quote from Andy Hawkins’ presentation: “We don’t need a hundred perfect activists, but millions of imperfect ones.”

Thank you to Humanitarian Finance Summit for an outstanding, and much needed, event. For those who couldn’t attend, here are some key insights that stood out from a gathering of incredible, positive minds: 🔹 USAID cuts will have long-term consequences beyond just funding🔹 The collective human capital of the humanitarian sector is at stake. As expertise disperses, we must consider how to retain and redeploy institutional knowledge. 🔹 Collaboration needs a reset🔹 With the demand for innovation more urgent than ever, old attitudes towards partnership - whether between organizations, sectors, or financial actors - need to evolve. 🔹 SMEs can be lifelines 🔹 Economic opportunity remains the most effective alternative to violence and instability. For displaced youth at risk of recruitment by gangs, SMEs can offer a crucial alternative path. 🔹 Rethinking data-sharing with financial institutions 🔹 Could unlock new ways to ease compliance constraints - removing barriers rather than reinforcing them. 🔹 92% of humanitarian funding goes to protracted crises🔹 This statistic should frame every funding conversation. If nearly all humanitarian dollars are spent on long-term crises, how do we rethink financing models to match this reality? 🔹 The power of impact bonds to flood capital🔹 IFFIm's vaccine bonds endure as a simple but effective template to flood capital into key areas. 🔹 The role of insurance is set to expand dramatically🔹 Both in disaster response and climate finance. The proximity of skill sets between insurance and the humanitarian space is separated merely by a lack of common language. Finally, a hopeful reminder: despite the challenges ahead, immense progress has already been made. There is richness in what has been built and what remains. The sector needs to lean into that and find opportunity in it.
