Google for Startups EMEA - working with startups, investors, governments (policy makers) and media

My Trip to Lviv, Ukraine: 🚀Leading the Charge: Supporting Ukraine's Startup Ecosystem at IT Arena 🚀 Last week, I had the distinct privilege of participating in IT Arena, Ukraine's premier technology conference, held in the vibrant city of Lviv. It was an incredibly moving experience to witness firsthand the unwavering spirit of the Ukrainian tech community, who, despite the ongoing conflict, continue to drive innovation and progress. A key highlight of my trip was the opportunity to announce the latest cohort of 24 startups receiving critical investment from the Google for Startups Ukraine Support Fund. Working alongside my esteemed partner, Michal Kramarz, we were deeply impressed by the caliber of these ventures, each demonstrating remarkable resilience and ingenuity in the face of adversity. These startups are not simply maintaining business as usual; they are actively shaping the future of Ukraine. They are creating employment opportunities, developing cutting-edge technologies with applications in defense and recovery, and fostering a sense of hope and possibility for the nation. I extend my sincere gratitude to Matt Brittin, President of Google EMEA, for his steadfast commitment to Ukraine and his unwavering belief in the power of entrepreneurship to drive positive change. Google's support is a testament to the indomitable spirit of the Ukrainian people, and I am proud to play my part of this vital initiative. The future of Ukraine rests in the hands of its innovators and entrepreneurs, and I am confident that these 24 startups will play a pivotal role in rebuilding and reimagining the nation. Their courage, creativity, and determination inspire me, and I am honored to support their journey - Mykhailo Fedorov, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine for Innovation, Education, Science and Technology. Product Manager

A few years ago, I was asked a simple question: "Why do you want to work at Google?" At the time, I struggled to articulate an answer. It seemed as though the reasons were endless and self-evident. Since I was 15, I had aspired to be part of this company - to contribute to something larger, something exceptional, something that inspired me deeply. To me, Google is a company that: 💜 Demonstrated how a single, groundbreaking product can transform the world. 💜 Proved that it’s possible to create products used and trusted by millions globally. 💜 Emphasizes growth, continuous learning, and steady progress, no matter how incremental. 💜 And, of course, embodies strong values- one of which is a genuine commitment to helping others 🫂💜. From a young age, I dedicated myself to studying and working diligently, always driven by the goal of joining Google. I recognized the additional challenges as a Ukrainian, particularly since there isn’t a local Google office, but I remained undeterred 😅. I took the initiative to learn Product Management, completed courses, organized study groups, and continuously sought new opportunities. Applying the knowledge I gained, I began developing my own product, Verba, crafted with care and a deep focus on user experience. I aspired to join Google as a Product Manager, with the hope of inspiring other Ukrainians and demonstrating that we, too, can achieve great things. Today, that dream has materialized in a way I never anticipated 🥹🥹🥹. I’m proud to share that I’ve become part of the company I’ve long admired, as our startup Verba was selected for the Google for Startups program 🥹. The company I quietly dreamed of for over 10 years, and frequently wrote about on my blog, chose our startup and believed in its potential 🥹💖. What once seemed like an ambitious dream is now my reality 🙏🏻🥹💜. Thank you, Google for Startups for this incredible opportunity! 🫂💜

President of Google EMEA. Helping build tech that makes the world better.

It was an honour to speak at the IT Arena Conference today to announce the next set of recipients of our Google for Startups Ukraine Support Fund. To date, we’ve committed over $45 million in cash and $7 million in in-kind support to support humanitarian relief efforts for those affected by the war in Ukraine, as well as working directly with Ukraine’s government to bolster cybersecurity, block disinformation and provide trustworthy info. But we know that it’s also key to foster the nation’s recovery and future growth. Six weeks after Russia’s invasion, Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai met with Ukrainian founders in Warsaw to launch the $5 million Google for Startups Ukraine Support Fund. He was blown away by their resilience - from those who have kept companies afloat during the hardest of times, to those who have pivoted or started new businesses in response to the serious needs they see. Ukrainian startups are vital engines of the post-war economy - addressing critical needs in areas like energy, logistics, communication and healthcare. That’s why the Ukraine Support Fund provides up to one hundred thousand dollars of non-equity financial support, mentorship and product expertise to businesses. Our first fund helped 58 companies, who in turn went on to receive $15.8 million in follow-on funding, created 100% revenue growth and employ many more staff. But there were so many more fantastic businesses that could benefit from support. So exactly two years later, we announced that the fund would be doubling - this time to be worth $10 million dollars and aimed at supporting 100 startups. In June, we welcomed the first nine remarkable recipients of our second fund. And at the IT Arena Conference earlier today, we announced the next set of 24 recipients - businesses like Elomia Health, who provide accessible mental health support to those who can’t access traditional services due to cost or stigma. And like Osavul, an AI-powered platform helping combat information threats. These innovators are tackling Ukraine’s most pressing challenges head-on - using AI to combat disinformation, bolster cybersecurity, and support those in need. They’re driving innovation and agriculture and finance - and creating a brighter future for Ukraine, and for others. And we are so proud to be a small part of that journey.
