Today’s professional networks are inequitable by design. We help grads to learn, collaborate & innovate beyond barriers.

About us

At GotDis, we strive to reduce the barriers between students and graduates and employers to help build equity into graduate outcomes. We want to improve social mobility for those with no inherited networks, helping them build the fundamental skills needed to learn, collaborate and innovate beyond barriers. Our new Employability Quiz is a psychometric tool that allows our users to identify how their skills compare to their demographic groups. By identifying strengths, workplace values and areas to improve, our quiz helps students and graduates better understand how they can develop their employability. We aim to nurture professional networking and employability skills so that emerging talent can navigate a competitive job market, beyond societal barriers. Connecting young people based on ‘who they are’ not ‘who they know’ benefits those who are less privileged and don’t have access to inherited networks. Take our Employability Quiz now! 💻

Careers are no longer linear. It’s very unusual for us to stay with one employer for life. Your career will take lots of twists and turns along the way and that’s usually when you learn the most about yourself and what success looks like for you! We recommend these tips to help keep you motivated during those times when reaching your career goals doesn’t quite go to plan: 🧘 Don’t get distracted by your connection’s achievements on social media! 🏃➡️ Unfortunately, privilege still plays a part in people’s careers, so others may have had a head start. 💪 It’s not a race and the lessons you learn along the way will make you stronger. 🤔 Think about what success means to you and break it down into tangible short to long term goals. 😄 Job title and salary may seem like obvious goals but it may not be what makes you happy. 🤝 Appreciate the small wins along the way and focus on building your network as they will help you on your journey. 🤗 Re-frame your mindset, consider the challenges you’ve overcome and value what you have achieved!

Forget about what brand you want to work for, you could be disappointed once you get there! A brand name might attract you through the door but it won’t be what keeps you there. What’s more important is the culture. Does it align with your values? We recommend going deeper than the values on a company’s website. Here are some suggestions to help identify potential future employers: ✍️ What industries appeal? 💡 Are the leaders potential role models? 💻 What are the ways of working? 🤝 Who is the team and those you’d be collaborating with? 🔍 Check online platforms such as Glassdoor to see what employees say. 🎤 Ask the right questions at an interview such as ‘Why do you enjoy working at “company”?’ Map out what’s important to you - your values, the ideal team or leaders, the behaviours and values you respect and how you build trust with others. The likelihood is that your ideal company to work for is one you’ve never heard of before!

Feeling the pressure to decide what career to choose before your career has really begun? 🚨 You’ll have lots of moments in your career where you evaluate where you’re going and that’s OK. But don’t limit yourself to thinking a certain job title is the goal! It may be that you are set on following a particular path, but remaining flexible is important as your career choice may not be for you once you get there. We recommend mapping the following out on a virtual whiteboard (like LucidSpark, Miro or Canva): ✅ Motivations ✅ Aspirations ✅ Interests ✅ Skills ✅ Experience Create flexible goals that could align to several careers. Your first role may not be your ideal role but it will help you to start thinking about what you like and don’t like about work. Continue shaping your whiteboard and goals as you learn and adapt. For three months, GotDis has collaborated with Nina Khairina on a Business Analytics project in collaboration with UCL School of Management, which is now coming to an end. Nina, a Masters student in Business Analytics at UCL, has designed and built a skills-based career tool that we aim to build into the GotDis platform. With her expertise in data analytics, business analytics, Python, and SQL, we were grateful to collaborate with Nina due to her ability to communicate complex concepts effectively and succinctly. Nina tested various approaches, collaborating with us to hone in on the most effective solution and added value to our organisation by producing a data-driven tool that we can use in the future. It was a pleasure to work on this project and we would invite our network to connect with Nina on LinkedIn, as she is open to work. A huge thank you to Tracey Phillipson who helped coordinate this collaboration. It's such a great opportunity for employers to connect with emerging talent through student projects, not only providing them an opportunity to enhance their skills but also for companies to bring in fresh perspectives and new ideas. #students #studentproject #university #collaboration #emergingtalent #innovation #skills #project #businessanalytics #datascience #python #machinelearning #futureleaders

To support emerging talent with fair opportunity, we believe it's important to understand what influences inequity for underrepresented groups. Read our latest article by Sorrel Knott on the impact of social capital via FE News. "Social capital is a resource that comes from having strong social connections. These connections help people use their skills and knowledge effectively within their community or society (Lin, 2001). Social capital is influenced by one’s background, affecting access to opportunities, representation, and inclusion within organisations and society at large. Social capital positively impacts organisational performance, productivity, and employee job satisfaction and retention rates, but it is important that businesses focus on supporting the development of social capital amongst disadvantaged groups, providing equitable access to networks and professional resources. However, the work to build social capital can begin in education." Read our article for our recommendations on how employers and higher education providers can support equitable opportunity. #equity #diversityequityandinclusion #graduaterecruitment #emergingtalent #apprentices #students #graduates #socialcapital #networking #fairopportunity

Thank you to Rahma D. for sharing your thoughts post-internship! 💜 Rahma learned lots with us, but we also learned lots from her! She contributed to our marketing strategy, shared her insight as a current student and even got us started on TikTok (among many other exciting things)! Rahma has helped motivate and inspire us over the last few months, and we know she has an exciting future ahead as she begins her final year of university in September. We feel lucky to have had her on the team, with special thanks to the University of Reading Careers and their Reading Internship Scheme for connecting us. If you want another motivated, driven, knowledgeable student in your network, connect with Rahma D. 🥳 #internship #marketing #consumerbehaviour #startup

So, when did charging candidates to apply for jobs on job boards become a thing 🤷♀️ 🤷♂️ There seems to be a growing trend of job boards advertising on open platforms like LinkedIn but when you click for more details, it takes you to a job board that then wants to charge you to apply! 😠 This includes entry-level and graduate vacancies, not just senior positions. Great for the recruiters in reducing the number of applicants, but it creates inequity in the process. It restricts access to those who are out of work and can afford to pay the fee on one or more job boards, making it exclusive. The class pay gap already exists with those from working-class backgrounds earning on average £6,400 less annually than colleagues from privileged backgrounds (UK Data Service). If we design our systems inequitably then the results will always impact underrepresented groups. If you can, avoid using them and stick to more accessible sites. Companies who use these job sites will soon start to realise that the diversity of candidates does not reflect the diversity in our local communities. #jobboards #jobhunting #graduaterecruitment #emergingtalent #earlycareers #inequity #diversityequityandinclusion #socialmobility #classpaygap

We know our grad network struggle to engage on LinkedIn, with the platform feeling intimidating for emerging talent 🤔 Thank you Jo Marshall for offering this fresh perspective on LinkedIn, a platform which has so much potential for emerging talent to engage with, learn from and develop a diverse network. Thanks Jo!! 🙌

Please ignore my embarrassingly amateur Canva skills here (I’m a writer, not a designer, clearly). But the message is still worth keeping in mind. If you want to get more out of being on LinkedIn: Then it’s time to stop thinking of it as a booooring work platform. And think of it as a funner-than-usual-work-bash instead. Fewer megaphones. More interesting work chats please. Who’s with me? #AintNoPartyLikeALinkedInParty
